Think most the problem is that Inno coded it in Java. Javas a good language for a lot of stuff but you really need to know the language front to back if you want to do a complex project with it, and it needs to planned from the start.

This happens all the time, you find a game you like, you forget about it for 2 or 3 years and when you play it again the game is basically the same + a few things added along the way so the author can keep milking idiots on patreon.

Another reason why this game will never be finished is the conflict of 2 core mechanics: on the one hand we have sandbox with freedom and customization, on the other hand we have linear narrative with static characters nailed to the ground. As a result, developers basically have to make 2 different games at the same time, but due to the inevitable conflict between two approaches, none of them will be as good as it would be if the developer focused on only one.
If someone plans to make a clone of this game, they should ditch the story and just make a horny life simulator a la The Guild.

I'm not sure I agree with this.
One main story + dotted around side quests + sandbox... that's basically every open world RPG ever. I don't see a problem with that. Bog-standard stuff, really.

Got to look at sourcecode and i'm stunned: the code is a creepy crap!
So i've forked it to make it somehow better.

Please take a look: and . Here I've slightly reorganized code and resources, though I've failed to get and married, so no luck getting rid of files unpacked. But now they are in user home directory, not exe location. The next step will be mods loading (hope soon)

Try to look at this one.

Six months no updates. I think author has stuck with the mess of code. So much code and so much dupes, totally got raped. Plus it's fragile - even rearranging code breaks the game. And totally slow, as JS been constantly parsing (by ).

I'll try to make it better if I can and not eventually get bored.
Currently working on my own game to be a spiritual successor for LT, would greatly appreciate it if you wanted to help in making the game a reality!

Hi do you have the link of this game? I can't seem to find it on google
The Guild isn't a porn game or anything. It's just a pretty good life sim-ish game but quite old at this point. A lot of people recommend The Guild 2: Renaissance if you want to give it a shot. There's also a newer release (The Guild 3) but I've seen mixed opinions.

The reason the game is fucked is the same reason all these open world porn games end up in trouble. They start off running well but the developers don't have the experience to plan ahead and work hard on a solid framework that can handle the load that they are going to end up putting on it nor do they plan ahead for a system that allows content to be added in an efficient manner.

It seems they either rush to get the actual porn stuff out ASAP either out of genuine enthusiasm to show off what they have and their ideas (understandable) or to get the bucks in faster because no one is going to paypig every week/month an empty skeleton and framework with no narrative or actual porn for the months it'd take them to plan and build it properly. As a result the game becomes what we see here and with so many others - a total mess and a patchwork of bad and clashing ideas, dead ends, bad infrastructure and gross inefficiencies that they end up stuck with and have to keep building on top of, despite it becoming either more and more difficult or more and more buggy and slow. We get one emergency fix on top of another as the problems become inescapable. We see smaller and smaller content drops as it goes on as the devs can no longer churn out whole scenes because the tweaking the code is like tackling a jenga tower while drunk. Splendid Ostrich is another example of this with a similar game type. Started off with a LOT more content coming out and then it just became this slow weak wet fart doing just enough per month to keep the pigs paying despite the fact anyone rational would ask why the game has taken the best part of a decade when whole massive complicated games are on Steam for sale (or free!) that were made solo in less time with way more to them than a few repetitive text fap scenes.

The fact that this game runs like a turd is the first red flag. It's great porn content and gameplay in a lot of parts but man is it screwed over by the backbone it's built on. The game just kept getting slower and slower, adding content and expanding it is a slog that it shouldn't be for a text game.

There's a bunch of fan mods for TG2 that's worth getting too.

Still waiting for Inno to Open the Comments on the blog back up.
Sure is taking awhile. Weird.
The blog comments had morphed into a direct stream of 4chan by the end of their existence (including a lot of n-word spam), and she wasn't willing to trudge through and moderate it for the two or three actually useful comments, so she nuked it entirely. Given they're still not back, she probably (arguably correctly) still thinks turning them back on will just lead to a repeat of that.

Everything depends on the level of sandboxity. Even in Bethesda games where all sandbox it's just navigation in open world, we see immortal quest NPC that ruin the immersion, auto-level that allows beat game on level 1. But Bethesda focus on story and this is not that big a problem.
In this game, however, sandbox is more elaborated and include relationships, offspring, slave management, etc and thus conflict with static story props much more. For example, in full sanbox LT you would be able to assume different roles every playthrough, be a criminal or an enforcer, do daily work, start businesses, buy houses, live on the bad side of town, die and play as your offspring and so on, but the story puts you in a predefined role and leads you to a predefined outcome, making 90% of the sandbox framework unusable.

It's known paradox that plagues not only game development: those who actually do stuff - don't know how to do it, those who know how stuff should be done - to lazy to do anything...

I will admit there was not much helpful commentary beyond a few bug reports from people who didn't want to go on the discord but the problem was actually that she was too willing to spend all day moderating away even mild dissent and it was poking holes in her narratives about it being hard to find ideal time to just sit and do a thing when the thing was actual game progress.
