RPGM - Legend of Queen Opala: Origin [v3.23] [SweGabe]

    Reviewing Version: [v3.04 patched]

Right away i would like to say that this game acts more as a RPG game from the nineties them a actual H-Game, and the best way i would describe this game would be: "A RPG game with erotic elements implanted (not in the best and not much content about it)". I dunno if this was the dev as planning all along, it's just the feel it let for me after playing it two times in two different versions.

    Gameplay:
It's very standard, perhaps way too standard, you walk (alot), talk to NPCs, do fights in a turn based system to level up your characters to make them more stronger and eventualy they will learn new spells, etc. If you ever played some RPG games from the nineties, you will not find everything new a respect of it.

    Story/Characters:
Although i think the story is good, the initial introductory narration is nothing but boring that could be totally be redone in a more summarized way, to make things more straight to the point.

As a hentai protagonist, with the legendary power of being the protagonist, you of course will have a full harem of girls that will follow you along the way, they all have their different personalites / character tropes that make them different from each other. However, all of them share something in common: their "need" for doing lewd stuff / anything related to sex, i will point out that some demonstrate the "need" more clearly than others, but they all have this in common. One of them has literally "Concubine" for her class name on the menu screen just for you to understand how lewd they can be.

    Art:
This game contains 5 different art styles, two just for human characters, two for beastman and one that can be used for both types. All art styles differ a lot, so i think it’s almost impossible that you don’t like at least one of them. However it would be better if the game had only 2 art styles in max because this cleary delays the games progress, after all imagine the amount of money and time needed to commission all these different artists, and no sane person will play this game at least 5 times FOR ONLY to see all arts styles, they aren't worth it at all.

From here and on, is where the bad stuff this game contains.

Hentai Scenes /Animations (Or the lack of it):
The art can be good, but the hentai scenes are far from good, it's the hated classic wall of text with only two to three images to represent the sex scene with no sound effects or anything at all. "But what about the animated tag?" you ask, the answer for that is very simple, this game contains sprite sex scenes and thoose scenes are animated. And if the scenes aren't bad enough, the aren't many of them and most of them you will literally gain for story progress alone.

Key items that shouldn't be optional:
Allow me to give some context for the Key items thing. There are special NPCs called "Scholars" they are special cause each one will give you a unique item that can't be bought anywhere in the game and that will activate some opicional events/Side quest. HOWEVER, and that's a BIG HOWEVER, two of them are something so basic that i can't simple understand why that heck the dev thought it was a good idea to make them a optional thing for the sake of exploring and talking with everything. So i will make a simple list of the items down bellow and make some comments on them to show how basic stuff you need to get by your own.

Boot of Rushing - Gives you the ability to RUN. That's right, the ability to run in this game is a optional thing that if you don't pay attetion you can just lose it forever and walk around the entire game. It's no suprise that people call this game a "Walking simulator" when the ability of fucking running is something optional to get. And to complete what is already bad, the item only allows you to run outside of houses, caves, castles, sewers, stuff like that for no God damn reason.

Crystal Fragment - This item allows you to teleport to each city in the game using the blue crystals, every city has one of them, which means this item is the backtrack ability. I don't believe there is need to explain why having a backtrack ability should be a mandatory thing, why the dev didn't make a important NPC giving it for free to you or at least warning you about the existence of it it's beyond me.

Final Thoughs/ Why i gave this game only 3 stars:
I'm giving this game only 3 stars because it is very average to bad stuff (here i'm taking about hentai content and hentai scenes in general, they are just bad) in everything that does not involve art, even though i like the story, i can perfectly understand why people don't like it, and the "walk simulator" criticisms are perfectly valid, because even with the item that lets you run, for some reason it is not everywhere like in games made in VX Ace or MV that has a Always Run command in the settings option (other fuction this game doesn't have, if you want to mute the game, you have to mute it using the mixer from your PC).

    The Upsides
The story and characters, interactions are interesting enough for a game like this. The artstyle is improving as more and more stuff gets the International Edition update. Music is good, and the world feels alive enough. You might end up playing it for the actual gameplay more than hunting down all the different CGs.

    The Downsides
    1. The obvious one, this is the ancient RPG Maker engine with all its issues. Expect the due annoyances - made for a small resolution, clunky behavior, walking/running..
    2. Game has terrible ton of useless bloat. Cosplay 3D pictures that very few would be interested in are right there in the game files hogging up space and resources. Scenes exist in 5 artstyles when most would only be interested in one, maybe two of them. Add up the 6 MC variations per scene and do the maths.
    3. Countless small systems that are made (quests, master hen'tai, quiz, etc) and then just dropped or put on the backburner forever in favor of other, new things. Maybe they will all be completed in the future, but right now every update has a "flavor of the month" system that is introduced and then remade or abandoned altogether. These systems take away tons of time that could be spend on story content instead.

    Overall?
A decent to good game for the story, artstyle and music, but held back from a "great" rating by its ancient engine and the extent at which it sells out to the wishes of the game's Patreons.

It's extremely grindy, slow, and you are forced to alt-tab to a guide/walkthrough to have a chance to figuring out what to do next.

The world is gigantic but it is only an inch deep where 90% of buildings and NPCs exist to do nothing but slow you down, waste your time, and confuse you.

Even following a guide it's not easy to play.

The intro sequence takes over ten minutes of unskippable bullshit that nobody cares about or has time for.

Story telling is passable but it's slow and very "tell tell tell" with no show. As expected from a game with over 10 minutes of nonstop exposition you can't skip nobody asked for.

It has potential but I can't rate it above a 3 given how hard it is to play despite alt-tabbing to the guide and how it seems to be deliberately manufactured to be annoying/hard/slow/wasteful.

The game actually plays like an RPG, which I get it, isn't really a focus for a lot of us, but when you have to play the games to unlock the things having a game that's playable is really nice.

The Important part is that the Art is all high quality and the scenes aren't super cringe worthy. This game does have some quality of life issues that come with the engine it uses but nothing that makes it a real pain.

I'm reading all kind of negative reviews like "walking simulator". "The room of the h game"... Fun thing it's this game it's not even bad! It shows much more variety, passion and creativity than many games on this forum. It's an old school RPG with erotic art in it. What would you expect? Don't like it? Don't play it, but dont lie about it.

A classic. If you dont like Gabe's fetishes I can understand that but, come on, this is therefore one great game before an H - Game. Tons and tons of art from different artists, replayability and thank god its not the usual crappy story about the kid/young man that fucks his mother, sister, aunt etc. Come on, there's creativity here :D

This is my kind of quasi perfect game, it can be improved, like the battle system (its too rpg maker like) but everything else is great. Great art, Great story, Great characters, Great sex scenes. I love to replay this game at every single new patch. Masquerade is my favorite character, and i love her sex scenes and art. I have played the other opala games, but this one is my favorite. Such a Great game!

A review for old times sake, Queen Opala is one of the first games I ever played and this is based on playing the first chapter some time ago but from asking people, nothing has really changed.

When I originally played these games I had really low standards but I now realize the creator of this game has a really poor understanding of how to make decent erotica. The game is a a generic RPG with a handful of erotic scenes where you watch the female characters get fucked by NPC's, these women will throw themselves at any passing penis but the main character has to save their life for a handjob, the majority of erotica is random art drops so if you have a fetish for collecting maybe this is your thing.

The game gets 2 stars for very good female art design but in a way that makes it worse to see them get railed by everyone but the player character.

I’ve played version 3.01 for 2,5 in-game hours (Episode 4 will be released in 2021 according to schedule) and I have quite mixed feelings about it. It’s a big game and much work went into it. But I find myself bored as it’s basically a walking simulator. Most NPCs do not contribute to the story and areas are much too big. I’ve barely had any fights, I’ve talked to many NPCs, most of which seemed boring. The main story doesn’t seem interesting enough to keep me playing. It just failed to hook me.

Then I’ve to buy everything that seems to comes free in other games like an image gallery, a quest log and so on. According to the walkthrough I have to farm money by playing dice which is tedious as I have to reload after each failed try. Afterwards I travel from one city, pick up one item across the map to another city where I pick up another random item. I wished the developer knew how frustrating that is for getting into a game.

This is mainly a walking around simulator and it bored me to death. I've tried playing it 3 times now and I just can't seem to do it for more than 15 minutes at a time.
This game represents everything that's bad about RPGM games.
I don't come here to explore huge open worlds where I can't seem to get any nice scenes and with no idea where to go next. There are a few games that are good despite using the RPGM engine, but these games know to not build huge open worlds with a million NPCs that are completely unnecesary to talk to. The good RPGM games don't let you walk around for 30 minutes before there's any hint of some nice graphics.

Holy shit how can this game be rated over 4/5?!? What's wrong with you people are you immune to boredom?

    Animations ??/5
    Story 5/5
    CGs don't care/5
    Characters 5/5

    For starters, this game is n o t - a n i m a t e d. If a game says a n i m a t e d it had better be a n i m a t e d . The story is decent, but grindy (walking, getting lost, etc.) and I got about an hour in before deleting the game, because it is n o t - a n i m a t e d. The CGs are decent, but I really don't care about stills. The characters are well developed and the gameplay is typical RPGM with combat (y).

Sprite animations do not make a game deserving of an animated tag.

I previously played their second game (LoQO2) several years back and SweGabe does an excellent job within the constraints of the RPG Maker XP platform. I have played dozens of RPG Maker games from several creators and most of them use the same basic assets, have poor quality control (player can get stuck or go out of bounds of a building), and just look the same and have ridiculous spelling errors. None of those criticisms apply to this game.
The Opala games are rooted in a well-designed mythos, have excellent quality control, have interesting characters, good and consistent leveling, and unique art assets. While some of the "trophies" are grindy, that is the case with most RPGs of this style when being played by a completionist.
At this point, SweGabe (along with Sierra Lee (The Last Sovereign)), is pretty much one of the best designers of RPG Maker Games and I would highly recommend this series.

honestly the best RPGM game i ever played, the story is amazing and really original, the characters are deep and really well designed and oh my god the world creation is amazing. the overall game is simple but i absolutely enjoyed every second of it and i could easily put it on my top 5 best game i've played.

(art is very good and attractive, but the game is stressful) being just a game H takes a long time. rarely, there is only a lot of fanart. But without real content. If it were for hours of play, only 7 minutes of ecenas and more than 20 hours walking, looking for objects and looking for damn golden beetles, wandering the map in search of a mission. If you are looking for something better for role play, Roundscape Adorevia wins

Have been following Gabe for years now, i remember sending email and money through paypal to developer. Anyways, if you are looking for a sex game this ain't it. Move on to next game on your tab. This is am adult game which has various sexual content in it. So you dont get to fuck horny whores around that much other than obvious people around you.

    Pros:
-Story, if you played previous games you will get loads of story from this one
-Art is good, currently not animated but it is still good
-Voice acting, some chars have voice actors which is good
-Open worldish, map is huge and there are lot of stuff to do, from adventure to kinky.
-Various fetishes covers almost everyone's specific likes.

    Cons:
-Grind can be troubling if you dont have much time to play the game
-Lack of animation, for me at least at this age we should get more
-RPGM, outdated engine, some people may consider this as a cons.

Overall triple A adult game. Just imagine if some company funded Gabe and staffed the dev side. Endless possibilities. Probably would turn into real legend of a game:)

Even if you are not a fan of the saga, any RPG lover would like this. A solid background story, a good combat system, tons of XXX content with selectable artwork... maybe a little too much grinding, but an excelent proyect afterall.

This review is going to be heavily in favor of the negatives that are in the game despite my high rating. That's because if I were to go into detail about everything that I like about the game it would increase this already long review by about 2 times. You don't want to read that, and I sure as hell don't want to type that. So I shall summarize what I like the most

This game lets you choose what kind character you want to play as. You want to be a human ✔, have a horsecock ✔, be a wolfman ✔. It gives the player a lot of freedom. My bias is kicking in here butt it has amazing artwork by SethXZoe, it also includes Sparrow, who I personally don't think art doesn't fits the mood of the game at all, it feels too cartoony; but nevertheless many people enjoy his work as well, and I do think hes a great artist. The story is fantastic, and it has a lot of reoccurring characters from the previous game who all have different personality and are interesting in their own right. The writing in and out of scenes is really good, maybe not [Retracted, forgot about rule 2] good, but really close.

This is where it gets real sadly.

The game suffers from a extreme lack of in between content. Almost all the scenes in the game are tied directly to the main story. This wouldn't be a problem for a Kinetic Visual Novel, but it really doesn't work in a RPGM game. It wouldn't be too bad if there wasn't a lot of downtime between scenes. Its not downtime of narrative or anything like that either. With cheating and using a walkthrough I spent anywhere from 15-40 minutes in between scenes. This was with skipping text. For someone whose playing legit, Especially considering how grindy RPGM games can be, you could probably play a whole session and not see a single scene, no bueno.

One of the things I've come to expect and love from games like these is exploration, if you make a big map with a lot of areas, and fill these areas with things to do, I expect to be rewarded with some kind of sex, not a shitty ques about collecting pelts. That almost never happens, in fact it happens once with a horse lady. Shame I really wish he did more like that, it was great. There's plenty of places and characters he could use to do this, but instead we get IRL pornstar cards, and a Dice mini-game.

This game has a issue with adding pointless features that no one really wants. The Pornstar cards, and loot boxes are literally there for no reason, they don't do anything. In fact they are more annoying then anything. The new dice mini-game is a good idea until you think where that time, and art could be spent instead. Instead of a frustrating dice mini game that only leads to stripping scenes and no actual sex, we could have got more story, or Gabe could have filled in some of the many content voids.

The engine is horribly outdated, and is the reason why some of my next few complaints exist. Gabes excuse at the time was it would let them develop the game faster because they know how to use it. Yeah maybe at the short term, but when you have to battle a engine on every little feature you want to add, some of which are in the new engine, it drastically slows that.

The gallery is trash. Its outdated (as of my last time playing) and only shows Images, no text.

You might be thinking "So what if the gallery doesn't work, ill just save before each scene." Getpranked.gif, the game has 4 save slots max because of how old the engine is. So if you're like me you'll end up with a with a folder of scenes that you rename to something like "Save2.rxdataGaborcbj" and you'll have to rename it back to the original name, move it back to the folder, overwrite the file (Which was probably the save you were playing on so you lose 2 hours of progress if not more) and cry.

The Text box is extremely large, and you cant see through it. So one of the biggest positive in the game suddenly loses a lot of its charm because you have this opaque box taking up 1/5th of the screen.

The choice of being able to choose from 3 different editions, with different artist to play with sounds cool on paper, till you have to think about the fact you have to keep them, someone you're commissioning on track for years straight. To put it short, things aren't looking so hot. Not only that but it also slows down development because you have to manage so many people you don't actually employ. This leads to most updates, which usually take 1-2 1/2 months only having one scene.

A few of the things which I have written above have been noticed by Gabe, whether it be me telling them, or them realizing on their own, and Gabe is interested in fixing some. When that happens, if it does I will change it or remove it from the list.

Even with all these glaring issues this is still one of the best 2DCG games on this site, and I have extremely high hopes for it in its completed form.

This is one of the indie games in the world that actually has a large span of existence dating back to Windows XP and for good reason. While many complain about the fact that it is a RPGM game, I'd say it is part of it's charm. The creator of this series could easily be considered one of the founding members of the modern day adult gaming world. Even almost a decade later, this third chapter in the LOQO lore still is evolving. While not a hard necessity, by playing its predecessors will allow a true understanding of the world and lore. This iteration is still incomplete at the time of this posting, it still stands solid. With multiple choices for PC and the very art style, plus the superb voice acting, this is one title that makes multiple playthroughs almost necessary. The story evolves along with your choices, allowing you to play as the virtuous hero or the vengeful renegade. With callbacks to old friends and brand new companions, you must clear your name and stop the villainous uspers to bring peace back to the Beldorian Empire and save the entire world form the impending return of the dark powers sealed away ages ago. In a fashion only Swegabe can really do, it is time once more to pick up your sword and save the two worlds from their impending doom.

    Endomorphian

Similar to many RPG maker games with lots of running around and very few short sex scenes in between. The game is made well and the art is fairly good. However the lack of sex scenes makes the game very poor in terms of erotic content. There simply isn't enough material compared to all the walking around that you are required to do.
