I think the market for the content is massively underestimated because it's not personally their cup of tea ((Projection Bias)I see evidence of heavy interest in the fetish and other darker ones on other parts of the internet and through just how many people have made threads in game recommendations searching for this type of content) that being said it will never be mainstream. The guro/snuff content fits into matrix of fetishes in the darkest section.

It's easy to say it's too fringe to be worthwhile making a game focused on it but the absence of quality content for the darker niche fetishes, means that any developer stepping into that arena has an instant advantage because these areas have the largest ratio differences between market demand and existing content for all of adult gaming. The biggest problem as people have previously mentioned is Patreon and the associated paypal censorship. I'm sure there are ways to get around this as it's been done for countless other games and genres I just can't think of any off the top of my head.

Are there any good DAZ assets for a guro/snuff game though? I am not into these fetishes, but instead of playing a western game with bad renders, I guess I would probably choose some twisted game from Japan.
I mean, for this niche market the quality bar is already set high. A western dev must also fight against censorship, both on Patreon and on boards (as other people have already said).

We have to distinguish between:
- Murder / mutilation / graphical violence for story purposes (e.g. classic thriller / action / horror stuff)
- Murder / mutilation for sexual gratification (e.g. snuff / guro)

The first is pretty commonly accepted, incl. in adult / porn games. The second one is not.

Another thing to consider is the intensity level.

A game which features e.g. piercing / body modification (and showing the procedure in a graphical manner) would be completely different from a game featuring decapitation and doing sexual stuff with the remains.

I've recently have seen an increase in DAZ assets and resource concerning graphic, violent content. There are many websites now offering this type of content to the public. Usually, supply is created for the demand. However, content creators aren't really giving a "one click" solution. It seems that they don't really want to be branded by anyone as offensive or be banned. Rather, one would have to build such scenes. It will be interesting to see if any dev will jump at the lack of games/stories in this niche. It's safe to say there's a market. Don't believe me? In May, here in the US, Twisted Pictures will be releasing another "Saw" movie. The last one, although not very well received, had a budget of ten million dollars and grossed well over one hundred million dollars. For some strange reason, people love carnage. As I said, let's see whose the first dev to strike out in this genre. More than likely, they'll hit paydirt. Maybe not because of the story, but rather on the controversy.

Plenty of devs both asian and western done the whole graphic material for a long time, difference between the two is that western audiance will sperg out and scream censorship the moment anything non-vanilla shows up. Yet will still consume endless violent media/entertainment without a reaction at all.

Its the hypocrisy of it all that grinds my gears.

However, this is even mixed up in hentai (especially in doujinshi).
They tag some things as guro / snuff, although the artist appears to be just a fucking ***** who expresses his hatred of women by killing them as brutally as possible, without anything sexual.
But you can get this impression with many NTR or rape hentai too (again: especially in doujinshi).

Yet will still consume endless violent media/entertainment without a reaction at all.

Here's a little morsel of interesting. If a dev puts out a ren'py story or game along the lines of a Friday the 13th, Halloween, Hellraiser or A Nightmare on Elm Street, would it be classified as snuff or guro? And if it is classified as such, wouldn't it be a double standard? After all, the same is displayed in both mediums. i understand that guro is having a sexual gratification from the killing,but let's be honest, we've all watched horror movies because we knew there would be some skin.

A good survival horror game would be great, but maybe instead of zombies, the game focuses on the fall of civilization. I can see where those elements wsouldn't be far fetched....or a serial killer game

There is some S&M, or at least they call it that, but it is so hardcore and one-sided that it looks more like torture.
They do have exhibitionism, but it only comes in two flavors, either one of the many sex outside scenes in visual novels, or girl runs around naked and gets raped a lot.

Thank you for your honest feedback. It's people like yourself that make the thread a welcomed forum to talk about the topics that the "overlooked" crowd, such as us, can voice ourselves.
I was speaking about some of the fetishes I have encountered in Ren'py. I totally agree with you. So many other fetishes aren't represented. For some reason or another, most devs stay clear of these topics. If they do add some of the content, it's usually a subdued version of it. I just happen to have chosen guro as my point. Guro, being seen as something most wouldn't care for, is just one in the many that are not represented. Just because the majority of devs are doing vanilla or (to some weak degree) more "daring things" in their story, it doesn't mean that all are represented. I, for one, believe in exploring any and every corner of fetishes.
I've actually seen some stories where the devs do try to envoke a sense of curiosity, in the player, to open their minds to new ideas. The ones I speak of do it beautifully. Unfortunately, that's not the norm.
