What a bizarre way to torpedo what would probably be a good game. Even a toggle would result in bloat of twice the images. Just do normal pictures with 80's stuff, bright colors and big hair, shoulder pads and leg warmers

It is Unity, not Ren'Py.
They probably attached a post processing effect to the camera to only affect the CGs, so the images themselves are "normal".

If not, they could consider doing that and truly add a toggle without bloating the game with 2x the images.

As someone who lived through the 80s, played on ataris, nintendos, c64, you name it.. please remove the pixelation. I get that you are going for the retro-game vibe, but its too much. It hurts my old eyes on a high resolution flatscreen, and ruins your otherwise beautiful models.

Maybe a nice compromise would be that any dream or flashback sequences be pixelated, but leave the 'real' scenes unpixelated. We could all see just fine back in those days, even if the camera and display technology wasn't up to today's standards. I actually don't miss crt (cathode ray tube) or 8bit graphics, leave them in the dust, thanks.

Would like to try it out, but then I looked at the screenshots and... well, I get the vibe, but it feels too much. Reading through the thread and seeing comments echo that statement by those who played, and well, I'll wait until there's an option to have it turned off. If not, might table until it's completed.

You're kinda right about that. I was curious about that as well and so I extracted the images to see what they actually look like "in real", and it's like you assumed: the pixelation and distortion is done by the engine using some sort of a "VHS" shader/filter.

But then again: although the original pictures are not pixelated at all, a lot of the images also don't look as clean and sharp as the banner of the game (and -- if you look at the dev's Patreon page -- the preview images they posted there) imply.

I think a "toggle" in the settings like some people already suggested to turn on/off this "VHS" shader would be a great, but I guess the dev then has to redo some of their "low quality" images that are in the game as of now.

Oh neat, they were pretty clever about it then.
They just need to add a toggle, and everyone will be happy.

Now, if only they tilted the text in order to fit the dialogue box, or redo the dialogue box...

We can but hope. I get they wanted to be different but it's detrimental to how good the banner looks.

When you make a VN -> use renpy
No need to use Ren'Py for a VN -- just because 90% out there use Ren'Py as well...?! I've seen great VNs using all kind of different engines, and if they're well done, those are great games despite (or because of) the fact they don't use Ren'Py.

Story is unique, a Buffy the High School or "College" vampire sort of vibe. However there's one pic, in the preview that concerns me. There's a guy, brown hair, talking to a female, which I assume that guy to be the main protagonist. He appears to have a bowl cut. Pretty sure in any vampire lore, you cannot be a vampire, a vampire slayer, any sort of bad ass, or anything in any story, other than an early victim, if one has a bowl cut. I saw that inscribed in stone somewhere. International Maritime law for sure.

I feel that this would be a good game if it wasn't so damn pixelated, It actually hurts my eyes playing this.

Going through the art you are correct. Art is weird though, there are like 200 pictures of character stood idle with their hair blowing in the wind and then 1 picture of them naked in a shower. It's a porn game, it would've made more sense for 1 pic of them stood and 200 in a shower

So, here's the thing, we all know pixelart games are a thing now, but hear me out, dev:

They're not exactly a thing, when you're trying to make a visual freaking novel.
