Honey Select vs. Daz3d

Hi. I've made games in the past under a different name. In the past, I used TK17 to make images/animations, but the main modding site went to hell and there are some limits to the software. I was thinking about making a new game but wanted to try either HS or Daz for images. I have general idea of what both could do, but I would also like to include MM and futa content and that's where it becomes tougher. I believe HS can do that stuff with extensive modding. How about Daz? Does Daz have a higher difficulty curve? Looking for general thoughts, thanks

HS Illusian Game products is based on UNITY Game Engine. DAZ Company focuses on visual and film industry based graphics cores and rendering.The bad thing is that you need a good and expensive new generation video card for this purpose. If you want to do something real, it is recommended to use DAZ and assets. If you make a real 3D polygon game without illustrations and photos then use UNITY + assets. You need to decide which tool will be good to work according to your abilities and money.

The male character models for DAZ are vastly superior to those for HS, which are kind of an afterthought compared to the relatively higher quality of the female models. Yes, it does have a learning curve, steeper than learning to edit scenes in HS but not as steep as creating models, rigging, etc. from scratch in 3d Max or Maya or whatever. DAZ and Poser are kinda like "prosumer" products in that regard.

Male character suck in HS (in HS2 as well), so if you want to include MM and/or futa I'd go to Daz

They're akin to the infamous "poser dork" from poser 1-5. I think Michael from DAZ was the first decent male character model that worked in poser.

and there are still a lot of shitty "new" male models for daz, but at least you can find a few good ones nowadays^^

It's good to have one that supports ray tracing, so minimum Nvidia RTX 2060. The Radeon RX 6800 series may be a good buy whenever their version of raytracing is supported by DAZ Studio.

I'm afraid its Nvidia only for Daz, it won't use AMD cards for rendering and drop to CPU and that's really slow.
I'd wait at least until february (more likely march) next year, the prices should start to drop by then since the availability of the newer cards should get up.

In terms of Pros and Cons.
HS is basically Realtime with a decent GPU vs Daz that takes Rendering time and preferably the latest Nvidia GPU and in general a beast of a PC.
HS has a lot of character cards for females which you can use to mutate, HS2 is even better, meaning you can have a larger cast while Daz is much harder to get characters and modify.
Daz probably has more Maps and Environment options, while HS depends on whatever mods are available with varying quality and issues, SEGI is a lifesaver.
HS is more of a grey area, while Daz is more legitimate and you would be able to put your game on Steam 'possibly', with HS you are at the whims of Patreon.

I downloaded HS to give it a test drive and I think I can get creative with the models to do what I want for the M/M stuff. The Daz stuff is interesting, but it seems to have a higher learning curve, more time consuming per scene/image, and frankly prohibitively expensive to get new poses, facial expressions, clothing, rooms, etc. for every unique image you want to make. But we'll see.... thanks all

I did extensive modding in the original HS, also did some visual novels and games. I switched to Daz, and I couldn't be happier. You have far, far more control over the look of your character, posing, lighting, environments, etc etc. It all depends on how much time you want to spend learning something new. I picked up Daz about a year ago and have spent a lot of time with it, especially the last few months, and I'm extremely satisfied with the results of my work compared to when I used HS. Once you get fluent at Daz, it only takes slightly longer to produce a scene than it does in HS (in terms of the work you put in- rendering can take awhile. Just do a batch render while you sleep).

Even if you don't have a next-gen GPU (I personally would not attempt Iray rendering with anything less than RTX 20 series cards, though plenty of people do), you can still learn Octane or the new Filament PBR "rendering" engine that comes with Daz 4.14.

The bottom line: No matter how much time you spend tweaking your scenes/characters in HS, they will never look as good as Daz. Often not even close. One of the main reasons I switched to Daz is to make futa scenes, and let's just say the amount of power Daz gives you to do that compared to HS will blow your mind.

HS has its own learning curve if you want to use the more sophisticated renderers. But once you find the right presets and scene setups that would be mostly solved.
In general the more you try to do things beyond what the "Game" part has the more you are going to have a bad time.

Did it take a lot of money to get started in Daz or are you able to do most of what you want with freebies? To get a lot of the settings, facial expression, etc. seems like it would take a lot of cash. Is there a lot of freedom to pose models or do you have to buy poses for every single scene?

I've probably spent ~$150 on assets myself, but let's just say the bulk of the assets I have were not obtained "legitimately". But I haven't commercialized my work or anything like that and don't plan to. There's a whole section of this website dedicated to asset sharing. Adding assets to Daz is a very simple process of dragging the files into your Daz library, so in that sense it's very similar to the modding process with HS (or just about any game).

My Daz library is well over 200gb and contains thousands of poses and expressions. Generally it's just a matter of searching for the pose or expression I want in the content library search bar, and then tweaking the pose to prevent clipping. The process of searching for a specific pose or item manually in my content library can be a bit of a pain, so I'd recommend installing your content via the Smart content feature as much as possible.

It certainly feels like I have unlimited freedom to pose my character how I want. There's almost always a pose already in my library that's close enough to what I'm imagining in my head, and may just need minor tweaks which can be done quickly (or no tweaks at all).

If you have ethical concerns about using assets you haven't obtained legitimately, then cash is going to be a limiting factor for you, and you'll likely want to research assets and read reviews before purchasing them. Thankfully the Daz website (and other websites) have very quality assets you can obtain in the range of $10 or less. You can accomplish quite a bit with just a few high quality character/clothing assets and some shaders.

If there were more HS models based on DAZ3D models, the games woould be made much quicker on all adult forums. DAZ3D takes too much time

If you have a potato, sure. If you take the time to learn how to optimize and light correctly, most renders don't take a ton of time. With HS, you're basically screenshotting a video game. So, it's not nearly as intensive, and then there's the legal question marks around it.

Daz and HS are fundamentally different across the board. The only thing they do that's similar is make porn.

I think this all depends on what you are trying to do. Daz3D has a specific look as it leans in to the more realism side of things, but you have to deal with the Daz Engine and rendering times. Honey Select is ok if you like the whole "Asian Doll" vibe for your models and male models that look like shit. The best middle grounds in my opinion are VaM and TK17. If you are a fan of Daz, then basically VaM would be your go to. For me I prefer the aesthetic of Tk17 and that is what I use for my video series.
