I suspect given that this is all fiction/fantasy, a lot of folks like a more over-the-top (unrealistic, perhaps) perfection to their fantasy characters. Some of us like more realistic and "interesting" looking fictional characters (without gigantic gravity defying body parts, pore-free skin, etc)
Also a lot of games and VN just have really bad and/or low-effort characters and style, haha. It does take a lot longer to make everything realistic.
