We are still a couple of months out, but once I get everything dialed in I should be able to chug along quite nicely on the rendering.
Congrats on the new machine! I just place an order for the first two parts of mine. Ive been wanting to build a machine from the ground up for a while now. Ill be ordering parts every week until complete :eazyHype:

This can be an expensive hobby! I could have built a desktop system for much less than I paid for this laptop, but I needed something that was more readily portable, and that I could use on the couch...

I'll probably never use this laptop for it's intended purpose (SLI gaming) though. FPS games give me vertigo...

I'm sure that you are as excited as I am about getting a new machine for this hobby! What do you have lined up for your new machine?

I dont blame you at all. mobility is hard for me to pass up, Im ready to get my office at home setup though.

I haven't even decided on graphics cards and what not. ill wait until im closer to getting things together so that i can ensure its all up to date and top of the line. Itll certainly be a work horse though, and despite all the power i want it purring like a kitten. I ordered a power supply and a new monitor today. both of which i can use immediately. lol

If you should decide to do any rendering with Daz3d, or if you are already, definitely think real hard about getting a GTX 1080Ti. That's the card of choice right now, and you can find some Founder's Edition cards below $700.

I'd have loved to have had a pair of 1080Ti's in this desktop replacement laptop, but I'm not seeing laptop versions of those...

You can make do with smaller GTX cards, but the onboard VRAM is important when doing Iray renders with 'cuda cards. The VRam won't stack if you have multiple cards, but the 'cuda cores will of course.

Hm.

Its still not that easy, but given what you want to do, since it is has been some years since mini pc has been used, it is possible to go that track to, of course, the dual CG = not sure, but as to RAM and processor, they are some nice options.
Then, its more of an issue as to the screen, I'm looking as to projector, while it still have some limitations (where to use it), but, as to common use = laser projected keyboard. Its quite findable as to QWERTY (not on others key setup sadly).

As to office its in any case the track we use, no noise at all, almost no space needed, design make it ok to stick on the back of the screen or elsewhere (non specific location). Even as to graphics, I wonder how the mainstream will go against the latest bifrost ? :p

Quite good setup, even if spaces between the keys, hm, danger.

Update:
The new machine is mostly dialed in now, and I'm back to work on That Night I Met UnderboobGirl!

You didn't think I was just going to ignore the fact that the Minotaur is 'fully equipped',
did ya?
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

Will she? Well I already told you she wouldn't, but sometimes you need to distract your opponent...

Yep, luvin' the new machine! When you aren't including a 3D background, renders like this (with basic models) are taking me about 3-4 minutes or less now! Setting up the poses and facial expressions still takes a while though...

Of course, the renders WITH a lot of 3D background stuff going on take longer, but still MUCH faster than before (by a factor of 10 or more, not counting setup time).

The fans really speed up for renders though... and I'm still luvin the click click of the mechanical keys!

So, yeah, crank out this short story to get it out of my system, and then I'll get back to work on the main Consent storyline!

Back to work!

The renders look great. Just wanted to say I like the characters shown so far. It's good to see a good old dating sim once in a while.

Minor update:

I've been rendering UnderboobGirl a lot, so I decided to take a break and update the Consent menu interface. Specifically, the load and save screen.

I still need to get the save game description thingie to work right, but I have the general layout done (screenshot below):

Consent_save_screen_pic_wee.png

This has 10 slots per page, and 200 pages for saves, plus the auto and quick save pages. I just need to get the 'hover to edit save name description' thing working. This isn't critical at the moment (The Night I met Underboobgirl doesn't need this), but I need to get it nailed down before Consent launches (eventually).

I've learned about a few things about RenPy that I didn't know before thanks to comments on this forum. One of those is the ability to edit save page names (when this functionality is enabled). I have this working within the Consent framework, so you will be able to edit the text at the top of the load/save page in order to further differentiate the pages from each other.

Back to work!

Great, even it is probably to many, it is still better than to little option.
This while with game with multiple paths, it become close to a requirement.
Great progress in any case.

your game sounds promising, i'm going to be on the lookout for it.

i wish i could wrap my head around renpy. i'm practicing making a VN type game myself, i bought some tyranobuilder program off of steam after searching for easier programs than renpy. the coding just seemed to much, i was under the assumption i could basically just line stuff up and insert dialogue etc.

tyranobuilder is ok at best. i feel like im wasting my time learning it over renpy though. should i just hunker down and try to figure out renpy? they make my favorite vn's/games, i like the save systems (espescially your idea of expanding it with a bunchhhh of saves) as well as being able to put all the extra game dynamics to it like relationship points and stuff. everything else seems to be just straight forward for telling stories, you can do story branches but not really make a game out of it.

can you recommend any tutorials or anything as far as renpy goes? ive looked through the basics but i kind of wanted to build it as i go since i've been rendering images before even doing anything in renpy. so when i opened renpy i wanted to do a simple name your character screen and just gave up trying to figure it out haha

Well, I learned a lot about RenPy thanks to my 'need' to mod things. I am certainly not a 'purist' when it comes to gaming experiences - I like tailoring games to my tastes when those options are available, if I like the game, and if there are things that 'bother me' about a given game. I also like sandbox games more than linear stories...

I learned a LOT about RenPy working on a personal mod for Lab Rats. This gave me a good insight into how variables are used, and more importantly, how to begin to recognize errors for that they are. I've missed many a : (colon) when coding RenPy... or have 'mis-spaced' an indented entry.

Google is your friend when searching for how to do things in RenPy (renpy input name, etc.). Just put renpy at the beginning of any google search to get more relevant results. There are a number of cookbooks as well, but they are more targetted at people that actually write code regularly, as opposed to people that need to have things spelled out exactly. The Lemmasoft forums can help some with this, but my last couple of questions went unanswered there, so after about a week of trial and error I managed to solve it myself, but am still working through some stuff.

Yeah, RenPy isn't always intuitive though, I agree with you. Not everyone understands Python coding...

Probably my biggest complaint is how RenPy likes to compartmentalize stuff, making it harder to understand to the laymen in the process. While stylesheets can be useful for some things, sometimes I think that RenPy overcomplicates this more than it needs to. For example, some things in screens.rpy only get defined/used once, so sticking the variables to adjust things for that one thing in gui.rpy just adds extra unnecessary steps. Example: you could just define the spacing for the menu buttons in screens.rpy, instead of creating a special variable for it elsewhere. In cases like this, you can actually 'lighten' the code letter count a bit by just doing the adjustments 'inline', and make it easier to make changes as you are making adjustments (i.e. you don't have to look in 2-3 places just to make one adjustment).

I'm sure programmers hate this when I do this, but the point is to make it easier for YOU to understand, as it's your design not theirs. As long as the code executes cleanly, that's all that matters.

For more common things, absolutely you should use 'common definitions', but what the RenPy framework coders might consider 'common' actually only gets used once or twice in a few cases...

The one thing that RenPy can really use is a list of examples for code, as opposed to assuming that you know how to insert a styling parameter or whatever. There was at least one of these resources that I had bookmarked on my other computer, but I've lost track of it now..

I'm being a bit more ambitious r.e. what I want out of RenPy though. I recommend just going with the 'basic build' for starters, and expanding from there. The 'demo story' is a great place to start, just build your story from there, editing the stuff there to meet your needs. And don't be afraid to 'seek inspiration' from other RenPy coders. Unren.bat (the extraction utility that is available on this forum) is your friend here if you are trying to figure out how something was done. And google!

I didn't even think about the unren.bat thing. If I could get a look at how certain things were done in some games it would help me out alot. I'm sure i'll have to dig for how to do more custom layouts and things of that nature, but understanding whats needed for a points mechanic, and other things could go a long way. I'll look into it all, thanks

Yeah, this is the sort of stuff where being able to label saves ties in directly with the number of 'paths' in a game. Consent has over a dozen female characters for you to interact with at this point (some briefly, others quite extensively), and due to it's branching nature, yeah you may want to be able to distinguish the multiple paths. So this 'labeling' thing is rather important to me as well.

I want Consent to be an enjoyable experience, not a frustrating one...

You'll note that I'm keeping most (all?) of the RenPy framework enabled in Consent, as well as adding a thing or two (the scroll bar on the load/save page is all mine, feel free to borrow the idea though, RenPy is open source after all). Not everyone will use all of RenPy's features, but I like keeping as many options open to players a possible.

I really don't care if people 'backtrack' in a story to change a dialogue choice. The point is that they should enjoy the story on their own terms. Some people will ignore the rollback feature, others will embrace it. I'm not going to make that decision for you...

This forum section has a limited editing window, so I wasn't able to update the most recent screenshot of the save screen I posted above. Here's a more recent version, I just wanted it to look a little prettier:

Consent_save_screenpic_wee3.jpg
I need to make a Consent icon in order to swap out the RenPy icon at some point. One thing at a time...

I'm not planning on doing a really fancy menu interface for Consent (some other designers like to change just about everything in the menu screens). I want to focus on the story, even though I'm giving the save/load screen a fair amount of love. I'll need to pick a suitable picture to set the right tone for the Start screen though... I like this one as a placeholder at least - might as well get the juices flowing right off...

Consent_Start_screen1_weeint.jpg

Disclaimer: I'm not a fan of 'blue-balling', so don't expect a lot of that in the initial and subsequent Consent releases. As I've said several times now, if you make the right choices on day one, you'll be able to bang a gal by the end of the day. After that, it'll be more of a sandbox, so you can build the relationships with the other gals as you go along, with no set storyline. And that gal you banged? Well she may think of that as a 'one time thing' so you may still need to put some effort in with her at that point to kindle her interest in followup encounters, if that's a gal that you wish to pursue further.

Of course, this may mean long periods of time between Consent updates... I'm doing this one on my own, and working at my own speed. And I'm learning as I go along. There are WAAAAAAAY better Daz artists than me, I'm just trying to tell a story here.

Back to work!

;)

Hm, if your ok with modding, you should make it quite clear when going with releasing content as it is a game changer..
If you look at DMD (an exception so far), three main mod, with one making quite some deep changes (ability to get back as to a branch as to test both track for example). Then, it has often be discussed how adding in content would be interesting albeit not supported (..) by the author/develloper.
And so, guess we wont be playing any content (story edit) mod, since it could (probability) anger the dev.

Over TES games, modding made the games have x3 the classic play life, no forgetting about openmw who is a renewed engine for TES III (Morrowind), the one who had the best story + locations so far (again, with mods, as to add the fifth house for example, or a way to cruise around the island on a boat, a true city to Balmora (at least three major mod, with plenty of sub edit and "one shop"/"location" mod to be considered then.

Of course, what made it possible it the editor, who is not that hard to understand and use. Something who did not go that well since then (Skyrim one is a pain to install then use, with plenty of limits and lacking area, of course, it has been patched the community, still..).

Btw, as to adult content, these games have quite the most content so far, be it full develloped companion to quite develloped one (see over loverslab for these, mainly (with a mention toward Sexlab Sex slaves (Mia's Lair) & Forwhorn ones, among others). TES III has only a limited number, as the Better body mode had required time annd the engine had heavy limitation, with openmw ...

Update time!

Another week, another secondary character...

Like many of you here, I'm a fan of several porn actresses. After getting distracted by a few game releases last week, I felt the need to add another secondary character to populate the strip club (probably just the strip club, although she could be a student too I guess)...

This character is heavily inspired by the gal on the left, as you can see...

dakotacousin1.jpg

I have plenty of playthings already in day 1, but I will probably squeeze her into the day one storyline as a minor character. Unless a bunch of people just HAVE to have her - in which case I may consider upgrading her role.

The gal on the right of course. I can't afford the gal on the left...
;)

I'm down to the last couple of scenes for the UnderboobGirl short story. Unfortunately, the renders for the final set/scene are taking about an hour apiece, due to the environment. I don't really want to 'shortcut' these scenes using overlays, but I may try something. These scenes will involve several poses, so it'll take me a bit.

I need to stop getting distracted by other peoples games and just get this done! Even if they are fun and sexy!

Back to work!
:D

Quick teaser. This isn't for Day 1 of Consent, but ties in with the extended storyline, and maybe also a cameo in The Night I Met Underboobgirl...

Consent_KelbyCosplay1_WeeIn.jpg

Kelby likes Cosplay. I have a Cosplay related event planned in the extended story.

Enjoy!
