Disclaimer: played the game some...4 months ago, so cannot be 100% sure if there's difference between what I played and the current version

Pros:
+actually nice character design
+multiple weapon/magic options
+(relatively) large wardrobe (with stats, not just cosmetic)
+story actually exists

Cons:
-grind, eternal grind
-map is utter ass, memorize where you've been/where you're going or suffer eternal wandering


+/- about 3/4 of the weapons/clothing is enemy drops, so, go forth and exterminate in hope of getting a drop(at least you also get XP for all that)

If you like metroidvanias I do recommend it..just, as others already mentioned, don't expect much focus on porn

I 100% recommend for players to get the offense/defense rings from the skeleton/corpse on the very start of the game, otherwise the first....half an hour/hour of the game will be a pure grind frustration

this just sounds like a description of Bloodborne to be completely honest with you.

Is the "Return" button working for you, at all? I'm assuming the dev means "Enter". When I get defeated I press the Enter key to return to the main menu, but nothing. I've tried with Backspace and any other key, but nothing again. I can press F2 to reset the game but it's kinda bothersome. Well, it's almost the same tbh.

What it wants you is to hit the key you assign to open your menu ingame...for instance I have it set to "k", so I need to press k to return to my last save point
If you set it to enter it *should* also warp you back...
..just in case maybe doublecheck your key assignments that it doesn't have any conflicting commands/isn't set to two actions at once?
