After trying a lot of adult games, I can't see any major points to playing 3d real time games over visual novels.
It has worse graphics, wants more hardware, needs voice over (and okayish face capture), harder to play (especially in two hands).

I feel like the quality of adult games stagnated but don't feel like the reason is the VN format, wonder what you think.

Some VN games are better than other games, but that does not make them bad though. i honestly have enjoyed many great VN games. yes, some of them may not have the best graphics or the most best looking characters, but i still find them enjoyable to still play.

you have to understand making a game is both tedious and difficult. developers do their best to make their games and gladly share their creations with others for feedback and support.

Both VN and RPGM games are both great to play.

Unity is not the most stable game engine, however i have played many great games which use Unity. i will say that Unity does have quite a few bugs. Some Steam games that run off Unity do not even launch sometimes and the game Azure Beam has a bug where the game auto closes after idling for a long period of time. not only that, the game force exits the Steam client too.

Been playing them for a while I think actual gameplay or sandbox games are better in terms of giving you a reward for doing something while AVNs are just a mish mash of some times good stories and bad stories as well sandbox games might require a little bit of help but they kinda provide some better tease rather than just putting everything on your plate it's like they give you some sort of sense of an achievement for doing a difficult task while AVNs with choices have more content related to feelings of the individuals like oh no you went on a date with chracter A now Character B won't give you Anal sex A good example of a games reward being enjoyable would be the Big brother renpy remake or even Glamour like what I am saying is that sandbox games have better immersion take a look at Milfy city one of the most immersive ones out there

I'm, like, 90% sure this guy is an alt of someone who was banned. It's a new account, there's numbers at the end of the username, and this poll's language is moronic, as if those are the only two options.
And those two options only lead to the same result. I know. That's why I didn't put a lot of effort (if any) into my response... even if I still put in more than OP.

Or someone's ass burning after receiving 1 star rate to their shithole, who knows

All depends on what type of game you enjoy, so a bit of a stupid question if I'm honest. Just like any other type of entertainment, there's shit ones and there's good ones.

Other than character customization and realtime jiggle physics, I can't see major points to play actual games.

For me yes, most VN's do absolutely nothing for me except bore me to death. I'm a gamer, so i want gameplay.
That said fun VN's can definitely be made if one does have the chops for it.:coffee:

A lot of VN devs here fail horribly because:
1. They know absolutely nothing and mostly just wing it.
2. Too lazy to dish serious effort.
3. Their mind is an empty wasteland bereft of any creativity and imagination.

I think you're not asking for whether or not VNs are "bad," but rather "why are these things I found so bad." VN novel games, like stuff made out of RPGmaker, have a low barrier of entry. There's several engines out there that are (reasonably accessible) and so anyone can credibly take a swing at it.

The result - as you've probably noticed with the flood of AI-trained art as well - is self-explanatory. For a non-pornographic example, since I'm only bumping up post counts so I can share content more freely, search for Amazon e-book publication (those keywords) and click around. Same situation, just for a general audience.
