A New Way Of Getting a Game Made

I had an idea for quite a large game. As I have been trying to pursue it, trying to get other people interested .ect I'm realizing it's very hard to search for people, and even if I do find the people. Will they be as dedicated as I am time-wise through the course of the project? I might find one person that could do it full time with me. I'd want and need a third person to really get it done in a timely fashion. The more I think about it, the more unlikely it seems that this will start rolling and keep rolling happily for me.


What do yous think of this idea. Here are the rough costs of renting a 4 bedroom house in Spain for 6 months.

Rent 2700
Electricity & Food - 1800
Desks, screens & chairs - 2500

Total: 7,000

7,000 for workspace and food for 6 months in sunny Spain.

I've left out computer costs. Leaving it at 7,000. It's a reachable amount if people get behind it. Will they?... Personally I think they might. If it all looked trustworthy I'd donate some.

I won't be able to go myself. However, I'd be willing to put the work in on the back end to see an adult game get made.

Would people volunteer for this? I think I could put together a good argument that volunteering is needed when trying to do an adult game. Admittedly, a 4 man job is not something you would go to seek investors for. And that would the guts of my argument. To make a quality adult game you are not going to be able to hire qualified people easily, if at all. Some people will simply not want it on their C.V. Older married people, just don't want to go home and talk about the dirty game they are making to the wife and the wife's social circle.


This will be pure volunteer work. (Of course rolling with something that is likely to give a good return in profitshare.)

To sum up what I am proposing . Pursuing funding up to 7k Getting everything that needs to be sorted done. Looking for volunteers (25% profit share split at the end.). Before shipping 4 people to Spain for 6 months to make an adult game.

What do yous think?

Do you have experience managing any team for any job? It's a shitshow. And you won't even "be there"? Yeah...
"Good return in profit-share" - no sane person is gonna move somewhere without a firm promise of payment, most likely partly in advance.
"To make a quality porn game..." - are you going for a vaporwave like Subverse?

Scope down. You are setting goals way too high. Like AdventAnyx said, I have no idea why you would be renting space for development of a porn game.

All you've outlined is to put a bunch of people in a house (as others have said: why?) and "let's make a large porn game in 6 months". The timeline alone sounds unrealistic. And that 7k is spent on nothing needed to actually making the game, like buying assets.

My suggestion is to create a game by yourself and then return to your idea about this larger game when you have a better idea of what you want and need to do to make it happen, if it's realistic.

3 months, this will be over. And there is no better environment for a project of a largeish size than face-to-face. Take Cyberpunk recently. Delay after delay. First suspicion is they did not have enough staff for the game overall. Strong candidate suspicion number 2 is the work-from-home effort messed everything on them.

Mmm.. I don't know. There are lots of people 'in-between' jobs. Your doubtful I can get people at all. All I can say is, you can do your own thinking on xyz company forming to do a game. That's not going to happen. With a good speech and ears to listen, I think I could get a peep out of people.

No. Just Renpy and anything else simple. Nothing fancy game engine wise. Updates is the modus if your relying on patron. Originally I was going and try and keep the 'development house' going for longer than 6 months and have some of the people coming in do the updates for the previous game. That got lost by the time I got the keyboard to ask yous. lol

I don't think any of this can be applied to developing a porn game with 3-4 people.
Plus, as far as I've read, CP was in development for like 4 years (after the latest Witcher dlc). And "work from home" was an excuse to cover the lack of time for a project this big. They tried as hard as they could to please both versions of consoles and doing that from home just multiplied the shitshow.

I think the best thing you could do first is: write a detailed plan, about game scenes, mechanics and how they are gonna work. Have a plot (not be an idiot like me, who invents things on the run), a sense of personality for your characters to plan their dialogues.
Something to show people you are trying to hire, to let them know what the hell are they gonna do during half-a-year.

I don't know how to scope down on this idea. I can only put it out here and try and gauge if it's a runner. Your the third person this thread to ask 'why'. If you want a big porn game done, it's not going to happen in the western world by carrer business people. If I had money tomorrow, I'd be years looking for qualified people to come work on it. The 'volunteer' aspect is as big as anything.
It's going to have to be done by people that have thought about it, and know that.

If you already have $7,000, it will be so simple because a lot of guys will volunteer. If you try to build a team then ask $7,000, it won't work.

So you are basically proposing that people take part in an experiment you are uncapable/unwilling to be actively involved in at the moment, with no experience or guarantees whatsoever and them taking all the risks & bearing the expenses (which btw you have greatly undervalued), under a huge timeline pressure, no less? Well done, my bold Sir/Madam! I knew from first hand that my country was struggling, but that's a whole new step towards indentured servitude lol

Hot, sunny Spain would make an unbeatable sweatshop, as your volunteers would only be able to watch the beach from the window, assuming they would be fully dedicated to your project with no other working activities or income.
But don't mind me, I'm just a partypopper. Sure, throw a bunch of people who don't know or have worked with each other before into a reduced habitat during a pandemic outspread, put them under severe pressure with their own money on the line, with no sex nor intimacy, neither privacy... and wait. What could possibly go wrong?

Just don't forget to add some cameras here and there to stream the drama outburst, because that may be the only way you´d be able to make profit from it, love.

I've been working on my own game only. I'm getting to grips with time required completing certain tasks. That's a huge part of it. Ideally, a full day-to-day list would be really before work proper began. As you got into below.

It's going to be the hardest getting everyone around the same game idea. I was just thinking earlier, what if each team member has a huge game idea and we vote on it. Maybe go to a second round of voting to see if any concerns can be addressed. If I have I someone who spent ages by themselves polishing up a game concept. Am I going to have a possible team member leaving because their sure fire popular hit and money spinner doesn't get picked? ohh myyy

You have to have a solid plan for everything yourself. Then you listen to other people criticizing it and correct what's needed, things you might've missed.

Again, I'm just telling from my life's experience. But when you hear "horrid" stories of how authoritarian Steve Jobs ran Apple, then compare it to the results he got, you might have to agree.

I agree fully. I have, say, 30% of a big game. Concepted and part planned. I expect at least some of the people coming forward to be similar to myself in that regard. I do want to be able to show something, a great game, mostly if not fully planned that would be a winner to most people's eyes. How to get that is up in the air.

You have absolutely no idea about what "making a game" mean, right ?

Even with four peoples seriously working on it all day long, in three months either you've a shitty game, or a really short one. If people need times to make their game, it's not because they do it only alone and on their free time. When they are at works, they are still working on their game. Or, if you prefer, their computer is still working on the game, rendering all the scenes they build the day before. This while their brain is still thinking about the story, slowly building what they'll works on once they'll be back at home.
Just writing the script for the story would need at least a full month for a professional, and you expect it to be done in few days by an amateur that will perhaps not even be payed.


And there is no better environment for a project of a largeish size than face-to-face.
Tell that to all open source projects.

Or you just just look at the reality. They knew their game wasn't ready for a release on old consoles, but their bankers pressured them to release it right now.

So, in short your "new way of getting a game made" is: I create a society, but will not name it "society" because it's not something official. Then I'll rent a working place, but I'll name it "house" because I expect people to quit their family and live there. And the said peoples will not be some employees that I'll hire, because there's no real guaranty that I'll pay them one day.

The worse of both world, without their benefits... Not sure that it can works, not sure at all.
What you'll spend on the renting would be enough to hire tenth people working part-time on your game. And they would do a better works.

No, no. 3 months until covid is over and most everyone is vaccinated. I put 6 months on the game I have in mind. From what I know, it is doable time-wise for my game. That's 4 people dedicated though.

Didn't knew that there where two countries named Spain.
I mean, you can't be talking about the Spain that is located in Europe. The one that planned 70% of vaccination before the end of summer (7 months and not enough for an effective collective protection), but anyway had to stop vaccination in many places few days ago by lack of vaccine. It's another Spain you're talking about, right ?

In theory it can work and has been done. But it requires dedication from all parties involved. I wouldnt do this for my first project. Once you have an established team of x+ years, sure.

7 months is it? It's a similar in my country. I just asked someone and found out. Honestly, I have always expected rollout to be quicker. The first few developers might have underlying conditions that would have got them vaccinated earlier. ;)
