The imaging in v0.52 is incomplete. Only one standing pose is available and not all clothing items are rendered. I think the new images show promise to be an improvement but are a ways from ready yet.

These are a couple screenshots from the new version. Vren said its still a work in progress (can't even talk to Stephanie b/c her rendered outfit crashes the game). Personally I'm not a fan but I think the purpose was that this would allow for more diverse characters/clothing. Also the UI runs about 75% worse in this build, granted it is still listed as a "tech demo".

Looks on par with current images, if not a little better, IMO.

Looks like there's so far only one model that Vren's managed to import into the game. The lighting is all borked though.

I can't help thinking that porting the entire game to Unity would probably be less work with better result.

Less work in terms of art assets but I wonder if porting the code into an engine that probably doesn't support ren'py would get dicey. Not a programmer so I can't say

Different work in terms of art assets - you have to be very careful with texture size and mesh complexity in a 3d engine compared to throwing pre-rendered images on the screen. Also yes, the code would be a complete rewrite since Unity is C# (or JS), not Python. But it would need a large lift to get back to the features that RenPy gives for free. That is, Unity is much more barebones than Ren'Py.

I was more thinking in the lines of recreating it in Unity.

Renpy gives you a very simple framework to quickly create a game where you click on buttons to progress a story consisting of text and pictures. But as soon as you want to do more complex things like adding a mini game or use 3D models, then it instantly gets very difficult and time consuming.

In Unity it is pretty much the other way around. There is no built in support for clicking on buttons to progress a story consisting of text and pictures, but all the other stuff is very easy to do.

Look at Venus Club for example of a game with similar logic, created in Unity. The main menu in that game is pretty much the same thing as the map in Lab Rats. You can go to the lounge, the office, Yakuza HQ or you can click on buttons to check status of stripers, how tired they are, etc.

If the author of that game comes up with a new game element that he wants to add, like for example 3D models in different poses and clothes, then he can easily do so.

Then compare it with when Vren comes up with a new idea for Lab Rats...

It is probably very much a goal in itself for Vren to try pushing the limits of what Ren'py can do, but I don't think he is doing himself any favors as a game creator by doing so.

screenshots (techdemo) look like too much smoothing on the chars. Lost detail or something.:cautious:

Hoping if the new system works out in the end they'd be able to add male body types. Have the models interact in the sexy scenes. Also sissification and futa would be possible
