A lot of my opinions are well received, but sometimes I can totally MISS THE MARK. This post I made was totally disliked:

I'm thinking that overcoming some struggle, to get the girl, would make things more interesting? If the struggle shouldn't be male competition, then what trials and obstacles should the Harem lover have to go through, in order to get the girl?

Are you Harem lovers down for male competition, or can you do without it?

There's this game called Corruption; you go around mind controlling the women, but you're essentially eliminating your competition through mind control, so there is actually some kind of male competition, in some small degree. You've acquired a great power over competing males, and you get the women that way.

Do you want to be challenged in order to get a full blown Harem? If so, in what ways? If not, then you want a more relaxed setting?

I personally prefer male competition, but without seeing male faces. They're just there as meaningful obstacles that will make the reward sweeter.

I mean, as long as it doesn't include other males fucking MC's LIs (but it probably can be done in an acceptable manner as well), I don't really care. I don't see why presence of other men/their absence would be a problem, it all depends on the story.

In before "mY wAiFuS mUsT bE InNoCeNT vIrGiNsss wHo OnLy Lo0ks at MeEeE!"

Seriously, though. Harems are pure male fantasy. They don't want to fight for a woman to drool over them, then just want them on their knees cock-gobbling as soon as possible. This is why projects like WVM appeal to a certain subset of people, and I'm not going to take shots at specific types of people, but they know who they are. While the argument that its escapism is fair, a good story - especially romantic - aren't good without some level of conflict. I prefer realism, and realism says that attractive girls are going to be hit on (no, being avoided because you're attractive is absolutely not a thing. It happens, but it's not a thing.). It's really that simple, and for that matter, it's a game/story/VN. Just make the right choices and you don't have to worry about it.

Edit: Oi. If you're going to facepalm me, then at least have the gall to attempt to tell me where I'm wrong lol.

Some drama and tension can make things more interesting. Crashing the wedding in "Once in a lifetime" and preventing the teacher from marrying the idiot male was a really nice scene, for example. There is no sense of accomplishment if everything is served on a platter. Feelgood scenarios without any drama or competition can be fun every now and then and quite enjoyable, but some tension and drama usually enhance things - for me at least.

The problem with adding "male competition" is that it makes players feel like they're one bad decision away from being cucked and most harem fans hate that. There are other ways to keep things interesting. Maybe one of the LIs gets jealous when the MC is with another girl so she needs some convincing to come around to the idea of sharing him, he has to show her that he still loves her and she won't be neglected. Or you can create an antagonist that wants something other than sex, like in Sunshine Love, there's a guy who wants to buy your sister's hotel and she doesn't want to sell so he resorts to underhanded tactics.

At the end of the day, harems are a power fantasy and people who like those kind of games don't want to have to worry about having their girls stolen.

That would be interesting, tbh. A game where if you don't man up, the girls will just find other guys.

Or maybe if you focus too much on one girl, the others will get fed up and just go find themselves someone else.

What kind of power fantasy is this shit if 99% of harem games is about a loser that gets hot chicks served to him in a silver platter? lmao

Make him work for that pussy, damnit.

Bonus points if the antagonist is an actual bad ass, who isn't a piece of shit and can make the girls 100x times happier than if they stay with loser MC.

So as long as loser MC stays a loser, he ain't getting any.

I have a weakness.

In games i haply mindbreak woman into submission.
Have them betray there daughters and break them for me.

I love whoring/sharing my woman as a sign of power.
After all the knowledge that i can get you a lot of pussy in exchange for your loyalty or money give's me a powerful barganing chip.
And the woman get humiliate as there threated as objects.
So bonus.

But i find hurting men is painful.
Making her break up with her husband, Cheating with a married woman, etc.
If it hurts the male in the relationship i find myself feeling disugsted.
Like it is wrong to hurt a male.

That said there have been games where i enjoy stealing woman away from douchbag boyfriends.
Or felt the joy of the risk of getting caught.
There is a joy in knowing you have some guys wife fucking her husband to sleep so you can have your way with her daughter.

In short.
I LOVE POWER.
I NEED POWER.
I CRAVE POWER.

But despite all of that i am ashamed to admit that hurting other male in the progress of claiming woman is disguisting to me.
I still do it but i feel like shit.
I might even not do it if i like the guy in question.
Taking a douchbag's wife and kids is one thing.
Taking a hardworking family guy wife and kids on the other hand.
There is such a thing as too far.
And hurting a good honest hardworking man goes to far.
It is a stupid weakness.
One i am working to change.
But i dislike hurting my fellow man.

Now make no mistake.
Assholes arent men and can be hurt with impunity but even then i rather kill them then steal there wives from them.
Mostly because assholes need to die.

There's a small circle of users on this site who really think they're the absolute authority on what a harem game should be, and what you've said is one of their biggest triggers :HideThePain:
They don't want to see any other male, they prefer their love interests to be virgins and if they aren't they definitely don't want any kind of description or flashback of how previous boyfriends might have been.

I completely agree with you that it's boring as sin but then again I hate harems in the first place so I'm hardly an authority on the subject. The only harems I tolerate are the ones claimed by violence and conquest, I want the MC to fight for that pussy goddammit.

The problem with harem games is that they are boring.

A good story needs some conflict. So you can for example:
- Make the girls not ok with sharing the male MC (at least initially)
- Have a male antagonist trying to romance your potential LI's
- Make it about incest: the girls are against the relationship because it's forbidden

Then there is also the topic of other men just existing. Not specificallly as competitors but just being there. I posted quite a few thoughts on that topic here:
https://f95zone.to/threads/rovering-to-sussex-ch-1-v0-1-1-zargon_games-rfb.116267/
Also not to universal approval, I might add.... :sneaky:

It's increasingly difficult to not take shots, when the harem Karens conjure up a shitstorm every time there's a non-virgin female character. Escapism is all well and good, but how is the need to escape from real women not the cringiest thing ever? Is the thought that women can be sexually active really so traumatic that it's a big deal every time it's represented in male power fantasies?

It's just one kind of harem, and not necessarily the most frequent. Accordingly to the tag definition, half the games available here should be tagged as harem ones. A game like Sweet Affection, by example, is as much a harem game as Harem Hotel. And in both the girls aren't drooling over MC's cock, they even have a life on their own.

This is why projects like WVM appeal to a certain subset of people, [...]
Have you played it ?
One of the girl start being in couple with a teammate that will betray the MC, one is a drama queen jealous sister who start by hating the MC and her own sister. There's also the long lost sister, and the "are you my sister" girl, the unreachable step-mother, the "we shouldn't" coach, the princess in exile, and so on. Really few girls in MC's harem had sex with him, some don't even had their french kiss time yet. Anyway, so far around 40% of the girls in the harem will probably never have sex with the MC.
Exception made of the girlfriend and best friend, and also that cheerleader offered as welcome gift, the MC firstly need to at least figure a girl's personal problem before he can even kiss her. He have a lot of sex, but mostly with secondary characters. Yet only if he agreed to become a stallion for women in need of a child. And it's them, so women that aren't part of the harem, as well as the step-mother best friend, who effectively drool over MC's cock.

This without counting the fact that, before the rewriting that will extend the number of days, there isn't a single day passing without a top level conflict. What mean that it's a good story, accordingly to your own definition.

Seriously, I'm one of the persons who say the most often how below average this game is, and I end defending it because you're totally wrong while talking about it :/
