Played through this game a few years ago. Not even gay, enjoyed it thoroughly. A love story is a love story. Anyone can enjoy that.

The mind control is actually Aoba's (protags) powers. Its called the power of persuasion. Its actually not used for any of the sex scenes but used for many of the action and drama scenes. If Aoba raises or lowers his voice, he can get people to listen to him. Aoba is shown using this at the beginning to increase sales for his job. He later uses it to calm down potential fights that could happen and is becomes important during the route you choose.

Same. Wasn't there some drama with one of the characters getting the protag drunk then fucking them or something else suitably rapey and creepy, so people got mad about that character having fans? I never got too deep into the fandom so idk what it was all about exactly.
Eh, I get on well enough with my sister that she and her boyfriend tagged along to the BDSM/Kink club I used to go to a bunch, at least before the club closed down eventually since it wasn't profitable enough.

I liked it a bit. The premise and the world have a lot of promise. I could actually see this as a video game. The sex content was lacking. It's like an end of story reward. More character development would be good. Additional chapters that you could play to get backstory on all characters would be nice. Not ending when they get together would be nice. Add more content. I know it's a VN but hey, a guy can hope that it turns into an adult game with actual missions and such. 8/10

There is a sequel called DRAMAtical Murder Re:connect which expands on almost every single one of the game ends, as a sort of post-epilogue. It's really good. Sadly I don't think JAST USA remade that, not yet anyway. Still a VN though so no missions or anything like that in it either, and it's also much shorter than this one is (it's a kind of add-on sort of thing).

To be fair, you'd kinda want to bang every dude in a BL game.
So, I looked into my old copies of Dmmd and it turns out, the old version was released in Japan so it used to be censored. Its also a bitch to play because you had to set your region locale to japanese and I couldn't seem to open it with localemulator. This new release is published by JAST USA, and as such is completely uncensored and doesn't need region setting changes. Unfortunately, apart from the uncensoring, I don't notice anything other changes. So the Mizuki route is still only accessible in the non-sexual PSVita version.

And unfortunately, Dmmd re:connect hasn't been published by JAST USA. Which means any copy you'd find in the internets you would still need to change locales, and - despite having more sex in it - is still censored. We'll just have to wait if JAST USA ever puts out a steam release for re:connect. Add that to the list of games to wait for like Slow Damage.
