Yeah the dev has said that a lot of stuff would just have placeholder art. The last update from him ( a few days back):

First off, I've done quite a bit of misc stuff such as revamping Effie's H-scene art and optimizing the code (that's probably the final thing that I wanted to redo in terms of scene art), I've added Jacob as a clickable character to talk to. And I may or may not get to some other characters. Most likely not.
I'm currently working on Sister's story which involved a shit ton of writing because I hate myself. This is due to one of the scenes involving the 20 Question game where you take turns asking each other questions. There was a lot to factor in and it sorta acts like a minigame of such and some base character development before things start to really get heated up from there on going forwards.
Another thing I'm working on is improving the skill point system so it's more of a background, automated leveling system rather than one that you always have to tend to, and here's how it works:
Instead of always going to class, or the school gym, or the dance club, etc, to level up your skill points, you'll only do those to level up your max skill points. Once you've maxed out the max skill points for a skill, it'll stay there.
BUT, that doesn't mean that you won't lose points, the max points acts as a storage limit while your actual points remains how it is now. To gain points, you'll have to purchase these special items from a new store in the mall which will gain you skill points just by sleeping in your bed. There'll be many different items with different stats, each one may focus on one skill and some may compensate by losing you points.
Ultimately, I'm going for a less grindy method and going for something more passive in the long run. Yes, you still have to work for the money, to buy said items but that'll still be less grindy than having to level up each of the 5 skills.
Also, one more fair warning, there won't be any new h-scenes for Sister for this update, and there'll be quite a bit of placeholder sketches so.... you've been warned. I've tired myself out with Effie's H-scene to be quite Frank with you and that there'll be 2 new locations with 2 new minor characters this update.

That is a far stretch to claim. That's kinda like claim every game with a incest theme (or content) is an plagiat of another.

So.. there is a thing such as real life... You know work, school, wife, girl friend, whatever really that interfer with the time you got available to spend on your hobbies and such activities. Creators is not our slaves just because they got Patreon or whatever where you can support their work.

I'm not saying this in the sense of being entitled to obtain something. This is another subject. Everybody in this thread knows how lame ATU's updates are. You are right, the guy has a personal life and stuff. Still, they are many devs who works hard. That's the truth.

Yeah but who are we to judge, not knowing his real life schedule and so forth. He could be working hard with the time he got available. A shitty example, but if some guy got 5 hours a week to put into the thing, and he spend those 5 hours, he work just as hard on it as someone that got 10 hours available.

to everybody who's acting like a spoiled child because of the content of this update: the content is more subtle than what your eyes can catch. the dev itself explained it in the last post, quoted by matsc. Keep your head cool and don't make a fuss about your money, bc we don't actually care how you spend it. you can burn it for what we can care about it. Nobody forced you to support him, and supporting him doesn't make him your slave. Especially if you don't have an idea of how is life is/how to create a game.
To those who call this a bugfest: look at the version number. you can see an "a" after the number. that's because it's an alpha. bugfixes will come out during this week. it's like this every month.

No, pal. NO. This is a poorish diminished SS copy with a meaningless bad main story that's not going anywhere.
Damn, the places (school, home, etc.) are a fu*king SS first stages carbon copy. And since then he didn't add anything. In the meantime, SS skyrocketed, added content and took its real shape.

May be you're right. In this case, he should make lesser, but longer updates. For example : Parental Love. The Dev regularly makes updates to keep in touch and show his progress. It's been nearly 3 months we didn't get any updates, but everybody is hyped because we know the contents are gonna be something, you see? Anyway, that's just my point of view, SH's Pal
