The big issue with Daz's usage rights is that you are allowed to make 2D representations, but to export the mesh itself, other than maybe for personal use, requires an interactive license for each asset. That's why I suggested giving the EULA a gander.

The software does allow export to .obj, .dae, etc. but you should still be mindful of the usage rights. I'm usually importing .objs into Hexagon or maybe Blender to tweak them, but then I re-import them back into Daz before rendering them. This is generally considered as OK.

People do things like moving characters between Poser and Daz and Blender, etc. but that's primarily for 2D representation purposes. I'm not a legal expert on this by any means, I just wanted to make you aware that Daz's licensing is rather specific in this area.

As for Dee's assets, you SHOULD buy those from the Daz3D store, etc. if you plan to use them. Most (all?) of them are detailed in the Art Assets section of this forum. As for Dee's mesh itself, the morph/.duf file I shared above for Dee is probably as good a starting point as any. The other characters for DMD I don't believe have a 'combined morph' in this thread, so you'd need to get the associated morph assets as well.

Daz Studio itself isn't too hard to learn, but I get that you want to work in another environment that is faster for your purposes. Hopefully this info is helpful to you.
I will try to load your .duf file of Dee in DAZ and see if i can export it to DAE and then upload it into another grid, not Second Life, which doesn't have such a TOS. Just as a test of what can or can not be done.. Is this Dee avatar "rigged"?

It should have G3F rigging when you open up the .duf file in Daz Studio. Once you save as .obj though, then it becomes a static object, so the 'target' program would need to be able to provide rigging for it. .dae should preserve the rigging, if I understand correctly, but I'm not an expert on that.

Just a random note. You can render in basic OpenGL mode in Daz Studio, which is very fast. There is also intermediate Open GL, but I've never managed to get that mode to work. Both are much more 'primitive' render modes as compared to say Iray or 3Delight.

Found the hotel room that the girls are staying in at the start, it's one of the bedrooms of the 'Open Apartment' at Renderosity. I was looking for this because I believe it answers one of the questions from earlier in the thread about the lighting used in DMD. If you look at the DMD renders of the hotel room the ceiling is glowing white. I think Mr Dots set the ceiling as a light emitter, this would account for the soft glow of the lighting, also it's a quick way of getting reasonable lighting without a lot of fiddling with the scene elements. The attached bathroom is where Dee strips off at the end of day 1.

Good find.

Yeah, in my brief testing to recreate their basic lighting style, I combined a ceiling emitter + emitters behind the camera and in nearby walls to get their low-shadow/evenly lit effect.

Hi,
I have some information, questions and thoughts :)

To avoid posting the same image twice, here is a recent test of trying to reasonably replicate the environment and clothing choices for a MrDots scene (from Day 33 of DMD):
https://f95zone.to/threads/dating-my-daughter-fan-art.4315/post-3398172

All of the below relates to that experiment.

Info

On Day 33, D and F visit a club with Olivia and Graham:

  • D's dress appears to be
  • D's shoes are from

Questions

Oh, I have LOTS :D . Just a few for now, though.

1. In Chapter 3 (at least) D has been wearing a necklace that threads through a simple loop ring. Is that a known prop or probably scrounged up from found parts?

D necklace with ring.jpg

2. Also related to the above image, has anyone been able to replicate - or find a pose - which resembles D's famous "Mona Lisa"-like resting smiling face expression?

3. Do you happen to know which shirts Graham and F were wearing to the club on Day 33?

Day 33 Graham shirt.jpg
Graham's shirt looks possibly from the , which was made for Genesis

Day 33 F shirt.jpg
F's shirt may be from

4. Has anyone tried to directly replicate the settings for F's Dicktator prop? (picture probably not needed!)

Thoughts

It's been awhile since I've tried fan art for DMD and only dabbled before. I'm using Iray for this go-around and am reminded how tough it can be :) ... probably because I'm so used to Octane for Daz now.

In working with Iray and looking at MrDots' renders, I have some thoughts for your consideration:

  • For Iray camera settings in DMD Day 33, MrDots appears to use Frame Width = 43mm. I'm guessing this is generally applicable to most scenes.
  • It seems possible that MrDots uses one of the Anagenesis products (for and for ), given how smoothed out most of this characters' skin textures appear.
  • It's impossible to completely replicate a MrDots render because - even if you got the materials, lights and render settings close enough - he also pushes his final renders through an unknown compressor + seems to add some sharpness to that result. For all we know, he renders at a high resolution and scales it down to 1280x720 when compressing.
  • Per the comment from Kerr Avon above, I've long felt that MrDots probably uses a ceiling mesh emitter (either repurposing a ceiling surface or adding a simple plane) for most indoor scenes - even under Octane, that's one necessary aspect of my getting closer to his look and feel.

I looked at your render on the other thread and it is excellent. If your intention is to make renders in the same style then i would say you are there.
I definitely agree with you on what a major pain Iray can be compared to Octane. I have been using Octane myself and i find I really struggle if I have to go back to Iray. I haven't found an Octane material recipe to get DAZ decals to work in Octane yet, but I was able to make a material which has different colors on each side.

I think you are right on the Graham shirt, at least i haven't found anything closer, but I will keep searching. Dee's necklace hmmm I though maybe it was 'Jewelry Basics for Genesis 3 Female(s)' since the necklace shape is similar but I'm not so sure. If it is that then Mr Dots has used one of the finger rings on the necklace, and I don't know if he would go to that trouble. I think if I was him, making a similar set of renders, I would use 'off the shelf' items unless there was some pressing reason to do otherwise.

I really wish the various stores had some kind of index system, it gets hard to find things when vendors use novelty names.

I'll keep looking and I look forward to seeing some more questions.

Hmm pretty sure the necklace is not the one from Jewelry basics, there's a close up of it near the start of chapter 2 when he gives it back to her, and it's clear there that it's a chain ( or at least it has a chain texture ) whereas the jewelry basics is a plain finish (I think).

Yeah, I agree. Have looked across various places and could not find a direct replacement for even that simple linked chain, so I suspect this is somehow bashed together. I did end up with a similar diameter chain which had a different pendant that I hid, so would need to add a simple ring object, etc.

Closest I found so far was Alika Candy Dress at DAZ ( but it is for genesis 8 ), in fact a lot of Arryn's dresses at DAZ have similar necklaces, likewise Sparkman's dresses at Renderosity have similar, but fo far no direct match.

Just a followup on Olivia.

I spent a few hours trying to dial her in, but am not happy with the results. i ended up making a rather distinguished looking Asian woman, and am starting again from a clean slate...

Anyways, i have interesting news about Olivia. Body wise, you can just use the Genesis 3 Female, with just a few minor adjustments. My suggestion for using Jasmine only tweaks the body slightly. I'm also having good luck using the 'youth' morph from growing up at 15% to dial in her height relative to Graham/Russell. This adjusts a few other things in the right direction as well.

Most people probably won't notice if you just use the 'default' G3F base body. The ass and boobs look about right, with maybe a small 'bump' to the prominence of the the araeolas and nipples.

BTW, it's not Vicky 7's textures. Her areaolas are too big.

The hair is Emilia hair. Just hide the left bangs in the Scene tab, and pick the hairstyle that moves all of the hair to the back. Hair color is slightly trickier, but using the hairbending choices it's doable (I'm still playing around with this).

The face is the hard part. There HAS to be a baseline face from another model somewhere that more closely matches Olivia's face. G3F isn't a bad start, but it isn't quite close enough.

Another issue is finding a suitable skin texture for Olivia. The 'default' Genesis 3 texture is actually rather close, but additional tweaks are needed. Maybe Skin Builder can get you there?

So, it'd be good to focus on the face structure and the skin texture. Olivia has thin eyebrows that angle upwards, and a mole about halfway between her belly button and right breast, and another mole toward the top of her left breast. Those would be the 'markers' I'd keep an eye out for when evaluating skin textures.

I spent about half the day yesterday checking out a BUNCH of Renderosity and Daz3D shop characters, as well as trying a bunch of skin textures that I have in my collection from acquisitions and purchases. Still looking....

Anyway, I had hoped to have Olivia's formula as a 'gift' to y'all for Christmas, but I guess Graham and what I've found out so far will have to do for now. Olivia is my other favorite character in DMD, and I'd have loved to have seen the story include more of Olivia and Graham (a foursome could be fun). I'll probably 'borrow' them for a frame or two in Enthralled, though, assuming that I can get a handle on Olivia's face.

What'd be most helpful to me is finding another model with a facial structure that's closest to Olivia (the body is dialed in separately from the head, and I think I've pretty much 'nailed' the body). Olivia's face looks deceptively simple, but it is unique...

So I'm open to suggestions if you have any, and hopefully my info is useful to you.
;)
I have been trying to finish up a fanart scene for the past few days and Olivia has been the final piece holding me back :)

Here is what I have so far and I'm hoping it will be good enough for how I plan to pose her in the scene ... still, it would be great for people here to improve upon this half-day, probably half-assed attempt.

Edit: ignore this post about Olivia. See this other post:

Original post:

I took another stab at Olivia recently. Interestingly, I ended up using a different texture set for the head than the body, in order to replicate her eyebrows.

Give me a sec... loading the scene...

Skin torso/body texture is most likely FSWA Sparkle for G3F. The freckle patterns line up about perfectly.
Edit: FSWA Teagan does have about the same freckle pattern btw... I suspect that FW Art and Sabby recycle their skin textures to some degree.

For the face, FSWA Kiera isn't a bad match, particularly for the eyebrows HOWEVER, you will need to play with the base color, reflectance tint, etc. to get it to 'blend' with the Sparkle torso/head texture.

I did hit upon what I think is a great match for the body.

Keira Body 100%
Victoria 7 Body 75%
Youth Morph 15%
Youth Breast 1 25%
Areolae Diameter 100%
FW_Nails 100%

Might need a few other minor tweaks, particularly to the area between the breasts, but probably won't need much.

As for the head, I don't think I'm there yet, but I've been experimenting with Keira's head at 100%, which has some things going for it, but I"m still playing with sliders. I do think that your head looks rather close, probably closer than my last attempt, said version of which is featured in Pt II of Enthralled.

The necklace in this outfit set looks kinda close:

I think you win a teddy bear!
Amazing, how did you find that, it's hardly visible in the promo pictures?

Edited to add.. Ahh I should have looked earlier in the thread, the Blazer outfit is listed as an asset on page 4.

Yeah, I agree - that looks like the proper prop.

Nice find, OhWee !

While working this scene, I didn't find a specification here for F/MC, so ...

F/MC:
Michael 7

IG Iray Essentials - Genesis 3 Male & Michael 7

Apply Eddie All MAT
Apply Eddie Face Beard

And Martin appears to be:
Darius 7

The full Darius character is more bulky than Martin appears, so I set
Darius 7 Body: 40.0%

You cloned the room really well (seems like no one uses baseboard in the DMD universe).
D's legs look a little on the thin side.
Really great work overall.
(I'm crossing topics, as this post is more germane here)

So.

Your little observation crawled under my brain and grew until it displaced enough of the few active cells to get me thinking. Because you were right and it forced me to relook at the old model I had scrabbled together from those before me.

Day 36 has D looking at her bare self in the mirror from various angles and Day 33 has the rest of her needed perspectives - I measured her relative proportions from the game and rebuilt my D model from the ground up over a couple of days to attempt replicating such.

Just looking at the math, she's a bigger girl in my eyes now: more supple than fit, more curvy than merely thin. Her butt is ridiculously awkward from some angles and perfect from others. And her chest grew, as well. That noggin is pretty wide, folks. There were times I was convinced MrDots was using more than one version of D for different poses.

This is my bass-ackwards way of saying thanks (for causing my OCD genes to express themselves in a brand new way)!

Dunno if this has been covered, but the living room that Elena and her Dad(?) are in at the start of chapter two?

Also, taking a stab at her Dad... He appears to be a mix of...

Old Chap for G3M

FW Aran HD for G3M

With Kyle for Michael 7 skin textures (mainly for the beard):

Vintage Male Hair for Genesis 3 and 8 Males isn't bad, but there may be a closer match out there for the hair:

That's my initial 'stab' at recreating him anyways. There may be a closer match out there for his head shape, note that his body is mosty hidden under clothes so no real opinion on that. I'm going with 100% Aran 100% Old Chap Head/Bodyfor now...

without knowing more of your setup, I would guess you have either a corrupt download, or a messy Daz3D installation. If you had Daz3D previously installed, this can happen. (Daz has some problems with their technical side of the software).

So, first try redownloading the starter essentials (best prctise is to not use some download manager, but download all stuff as individual files and install them manually). After isntalling you might have to restart Daz Studio (refresh doesn't always work)

If you had DazStudio previously installed, I would recommend to uninstall everything and purging your system (Daz leaves some registry entrys, which might mess up pathing for later installations). Afterwards reinstall everything again. (Tipp: make sure you locate your library on one physical disk, which is able to handle some amount of data. If you use DazStudio for some time, your library might become somewhat large. And it speeds up Daz studio, if it has to acces only one idsk to search for stuff. Just for comparison, my current library is at around 1400GB)
