Game has been a goner for more than 5 years. Don't really count on it.
Reasons? Try checking the last page or two of posts for some, i guess.

Seems like someone new pops up every so often and asks "Is this really abandoned?" or something similar.
Why can't folks just take a look at the OP and simply read the date for when a game was last updated? Yeah, yeah, I know it's totally crazy to expect folks to take a minute or two and actually read just a single short line of text!
But here's a couple of facts for you: the mod was last updated in February 2018, after that the developer just stopped working on the game and basically vanished. As far as I know the developer never gave any reasons.
So no, there won't be any updates.
If you ever find the developer feel free to ask them directly, but until then, nobody really knows why it was abandoned.
lol this just reminded me I never left his discord from when the game was active im so bad at cleaning up my discord servers I dont look at anymore.
Didn't someone make an unofficial spinoff to this game that not only finished, but they're currently in the midst of a sequel to their spin off? Class Next Door I think it's called.

Well, take a look at it just for the morbid curiosity and then tell us what you come across, if you care to.
Seriously, this one? I vaguely remember it and must say the idea of a connection surprises me.
But then, as i said i only vaguely remember the game, as i abandoned it out of boredom.

Meh, i didn't pick or drop because of that, so no big difference either way.
Goes to show it takes more than assets and some names to evoke a sense of "inspiration", i guess.
