I'm Agree and disagree with you.
The plot jumps from character to character. Maybe this is done to introduce all the characters to further develop the plot.
I'm sure Janet will show up and make a fire.

I really hope that Janet gets to do what she wants with Gene. He needs a chance to grow up and for some reason I think Janet is the kind of woman that can teach him how to please any woman. And I don't mean just sex, she needs to (I am going to use a tainted word here) "groom" him into a woman lover.
