I don't use any spectral render in Daz, this is just post process work
I can't reach something i like when i try to lighter the shadow

I made this earlier today but wasn't gonna post it cause I wasn't particularly happy with the final result. A little grainy. I should've raised the samples more. Also wanted to do something a bit different with the lighting but wasn't really feeling it, in particular, this afternoon. Meh, I'll probably do a before/after with this one at some point.

Nice one. Every time I've tried to do a render with dark lighting it comes out terrible. Curious if you rendered this with dark lighting or reduced the light with photoshop or something after rendering.
In this particular case, it is mainly the render. All I did here in postwork, where her eyes, and few highlights on her skin to make them a little bit more pop . As well as a bloom effect on the skull.
But I play heavily with the exposure triangle in testrenders before I do the final shot. (ShutterTime 1/45, f/stop 22, ISO 400.) I'm also using spectral rendering, which helps to make the colors look more natural in different light set ups.

For darker scenes I normally don't reduce the light in postwork, but increasing it. It is far more easier to amplify the light in poswtwork than reducing it. The easiest way to pop a dark scene is, to render it darker than intended and than duplicate the processed image in an additional layer and set its Mode to "screen".After that, play with the opacity of the screen layer.

Amazing! The skin looks so realistic... How do you guys do that?! :(
The way I do things for good'ish skin is:
  • you need a model with good skin textures (though most have good skin these days / makes some fine models)
  • then you need good lighting. Google 'three point lighting' / 'clam-shell lighting', and don't be afraid to crank up the light to the point of *nearly* washing out the model's skin
  • post-processing (I've written tons of GIMP plugins to help with extract better skin details / lots of things hidden in the red channel / always working on new plugins)
  • takes things into far more detail (any budding Daz artist should start by learning his tutorials inside-out), like adjusting skin translucency to better see details in the sub-surface layer (using Genesis 3 models as their SSS images are far more detailed / veiny than the G8s), and trying to get as many different hues into the skin as poss (skin is a blend of lots of color, regardless of your skin color)
But, the most important thing, in my experience, is good lighting: when I first started this image after getting her pose / clothing done, she looked bland, even when using a good HDR; she certainly wasn't post-worthy (the lighting took about twenty-five mins to get right, as I was experimenting with light reflectors).

Just my two-cents: could be wrong on all counts ;)
