Overview:

They had been living peaceful days, but recently the forest has been acting strange, with occasional appearances of yokai. Kuon, who has been training as a miko (shrine maiden), decides to investigate this anomaly and sets foot into the forest.

It's RPG then, not VN. Story in RPG (or any other game) told in VN format (that is, character sprites with text window below, which probably dates back all the way to SNES) isn't something new for the genre, and it doesn't make them VN - Disgaea, Hundred Knight and the likes. "Visual novel" doesn't gave gameplay by default because it's has "novel" in the name for a reason.

p.s. And the Steam page saying "Genre: Adventure, RPG, Strategy" and "roguelike RPG". VN's there have simple "adventure" in the genre.
