This is without a doubt one of the greatest free games you can ever play. Elona is a massive journey where your actions and experiences can craft a very unique experience.

P.S Nukes do exactly as advertised and DON'T DRINK THE WELL WATER unless you have sulphuric acid on you.

I spent a huge amount of time playing this some years back and it was great fun. I think it's updated enough (and been long enough) for me to try it out again. It's the spiritual successor to such games as Nethack and Rogue so it can be a bit challenging to get used to the play style. There's a fairly substantial story behind it and the graphics are cute. That said, it isn't a porn game. There is a prostitution and breeding system, but if you want explicit text or graphics this is not the game for you.

i spent like 20 minutes creating my character just to get into the game and the tutorial is so shit i cant figure out what food the guy wants me to eat off the ground. beyond that, i noticed npcs move randomly every single time you do, making the effort needed to talk OR avoid them more of a hassle than it should be. i cant imagine this game being worth the play on a fundamental level.

This brings back memories. Such a wonderful roguelike game!
You can truly be whoever you want and do whatever you can. Don't get discouraged by the graphics. This is the game you can spend thousands of hours on without getting bored.
And the new game by the same developer will be out soon.

it's turn based open world game where you grind your stats.
i tried mobile version which based on this game,

you can expect :
capturing enemy like pokemon.
drinking from dirty toilet and get poisoned.
develop each party member stats by doing something.
hiring prostitute to get higher max health.

this is based on mobile version and people been telling me Elona + have more content than the mobile version.

original main story is basically there is big bad dude and you need to beat him and you can either train around while doing side quest.

side note : friendly fire also exist.
you can expect some edit from me if i see anything different after trying this out.

edit : the game is complex and it's takes awhile to get used to control.

An excellent game that has given me many hours of playtime. It hosts a large number of zones to explore, fun abilities, and uniquely generated items that make zone-exploring and item identification exciting.

Whether it be something as strange as offering junk and trash to the god you worship to somehow gain their favor and unique items, running a museum full of statues earnt from the beasts you've slayed, or being impregnated by alien parasites because you foolishly thought a well was a good source of water, there's always something to do in Elona.

Great roguelike that flies under the radar regularly. You will sink so much time once you're invested in your character!

What else to say, It's just a classic roguelike with varying death penalties. Though I'd say its a lot more friendly than some OTHER more classic rogue games.

Elona+, a weird ass game meant for autistic masochists like myself. You don't win Elona, you take some magic mushrooms, ascend to cloud nine and then experience it in all its absurd wonder.

Word of waning, the cover art shown on F95 is from the wrong version. They yoinked it from Elona mobile, a nerfed port of the original ran by a surprisingly wholesome studio. The graphics looks great, the rng is dialed back, and they fixed a good portion of the English translation.... and this has actually made the game worse. Elona is not a good game at its core,,the shear absurdity of the experience is what keeps you playing; by toning that down, the mobile port becomes merely an ordinary RPG with a bit more autism added as a secret ingredient. I still recommend it though, its a cool little passion project and (mostly) free.

Elona+, the fanmade continuation of the original, looks like ass... and much like dwarf fortress, this has never hampered my enjoyment of the game. If you haven't, watch Sethz video on the game or read the autistic copy-pasta below this post, then download and enjoy.

I can't give you a guide for this game or any quantifiable metrics so I'll just say this: its the type of game where your pet child can get impregnated by alien eggs after drinking from the toilet; where the tutorial npcs are pro elf nationalists that intentional fuck you over, only telling you the worst way to do everything and laughing as you eat a rotting human corpse to stave off starvation; and you can evolve cows so monstrously large, that their multi-ton shit is enough to instantly crush all but the strongest of creatures.

Play it, if for no other reason then the meme you'll get out of it.

Trying to figure out how to install the game can be a pain, so I recommend checking these two sites for a basic description of game branches and mods.

Ps. There's a frail old man in the first town that secretly carries the best weapon in the game. Stealing it or killing him is one of the funnest ways to start a run.

I didn't see a turorial before that gave me completely wrong instructions.
I at one point managed to dig at the wall, just for a gold bar to drop that I couldn't pick up for the life of me.
Please just try to give players instructions that actually work.
