I'm fortunate enough that I have all of those things and I started making a game I'm exceedingly proud of.
So many people miss out on opportunities for humor, plot and character development and focus solely on sexual content. It's important to grow fond of a character before you experience intimate scenes with them. When you're thrown into the naughty action, it can be a bit underwhelming. But building up with a slow burn game that's actually got characters you love and care about, that's the best!
And so many people want choices in their visual novels but I've found that most choices don't really do anything. You generate points or maybe get an extra scene at the cost of a game over. It almost feels like pandering. And I generally end up just using a walkthrough.
I'd much rather people focus on the story and entertain me with an intense, sensual, humorous or otherwise engaging story. But that's just my two cents!
