I dunno about you, but my country did block many "interesting" website. Whenever I want to replenish my "hunger", visit PornHub & similar is easy bypassed with some ways. But my routine trick isn't working when try to visit HongFire to check the latest mod of Illusion games and other things. So I check some people post in random place, it appear I'm not alone. People did hard, to impossible, when try to enter HongFire site. So, any of you know the detail reason about it ?

It's up for me in western Europe but slow, usually blocked sites have a clear message saying (This website is unavailable do to a curt mandated order blablabla...).
They were being DDoS and getting hacked constantly, they had to remove certain plug-ins with hack risks from the forums (enhance the older look), they also prompted you to change password. They kinda got really big and annoyed a lot of people from all over some just got jealous, i've been a member there since 2009 and a lot has changed, a lot changes in a small time there. They also have server maintenance so if it's down for you it might be that, i doubt that your country would block them since they have gotten really good about hosting pirated content (paid games, paid dlc/expansions etc...) so it's not like they share much, they just point you in the right direction aka Google it.

Here's the official statement:

Server time travel to end of May.

Dear HongFire Users.

Even after we rolled back to the March database with matching site files. The hacker was able to hack us again. So we've decided to to do a complete upgrade and disable all the custom plugins that we were using. HongFire was one of the first fully customized Anime site on the internet which we spent many years to develop. So we really didn't want to lose all our customization. The hacker leave us with no choice but to remove all the plugins and upgrade the software to the latest version.

We now restored to May 31th database backup. Most of your files and attachments should still work. However if you see any missing avatars or attachments then please simply re upload them.
Help us if you could, Let's build up HongFire community again.

All users please reset your password. Specially Admins and moderators. "Admins and super moderators if you guys have problem accessing the admin forum please send me a PM or email"

Please report all bugs after this upgrade in this this thread

"Message to the hacker"
"Please stop hacking hongfire.com, we are a not for profit community. We don't have money to pay for ransom. So please stop hacking us and demanding money. We are already struggling to pay off our servers costs"

Hongfire has always been having trouble, they can't seem to get a proper server.
They are constantly struggling with hackers, people seem to enjoy hacking them for the hell of it, it's been a problem for many years, also they have a pretty large community so they have to pay for large servers.

How childish of those hackers then, like what's their gain even.

One of the last attacks was for ransom, they wanted money so hongfire could get back up, this was couple months ago, but they get ddos and shit every now and than, people are just jealous they are a pretty huge site with a dedicated community.

Yeah.. about 1-2 years ago, they had a rather nasty and sustained attack. The site was down for a long time. Turns out it was supposedly an attempt to completely destroy Hongfire's servers and hackers were getting in and "defacing data". I don't recall who said what, but there was some consensus that it was because Hongfire is their competition. Whatever that means.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was a coordinated attack by some chans for hongfire members posting better mods and patches.

Hongfire unlike most communities is pretty heavy on modding, they translate Japanese games, mod them, make tools for said modders (including people in Japan who use said tools), people tend to get jealous of them, some people like Uppervolta don't like Hongfire sharing their mods for example and had some pretty heated discussions over there couple years ago to the point that UV closed their website if HF didn't stop posting mods and shit. It gets pretty ugly, some Chinese groups also hold grudges, among other shit.
