Hello guys,

I want to make a good RPG game through RPG Maker, but I struggle in the part of 2D Hentai Art... I am no artist and don't have such talent (Unfortunately)...

So my options are :
- Take Hentai pictures from the internet and use it in my game (with mentioning the artist in the credit)
- Find my own artist (but well I don't have a lot of money...)

The game won't be monetized and It's my first one.
So my question is what option is the best for me without being in trouble with the US laws?

Thank you !

Some Artists will work on a collaboration with you. If you want to do it that way.

Please don't do this. I get it's your first project but this kind of thing hurts artist and the industry. It burns them out on unpaid projects and they avoid the industry moving forward.

There's art that is free to use for non-commercial projects though it might be a bit hard to find hentai art that is that way. It's your first game, you're learning how to make one. Don't worry so much if it looks like shit, you're not trying to sell it anyways.

Edit: What I'm trying to say is use this as a learning opportunity, but don't drag others through that with you unless you make it very clear that's what this is and they're okay with that. Just don't make it "This will give you exposure" kind of thing.

Was not talking of taking advantage. Yes, there are a lot of things you need to learn in game development. You find someone to partner with 50/50 not ask for a free animator.

@gamersglory Sure thing, perhaps I came across too harsh at the start of the post, just wanted to make sure they don't accidentally take advantage of people. Not everyone that does that meant to, they were just ignorant and new to the industry.

Well, I am a programmer too, and I won't get paid as well, but since I need some renew... I need to do some "free" projects too, that's why I think the best is to work with a beginner Artist who seek renew too... that's kinda hard to find though.

My other option is free art, do you guys have some good links please? that would be really nice.

Thanks anyway gamersglory and DakotaLDE for your quick answer guys!

Find an Artist that suits what you need and maybe message him asking for permission to use his/her stuff? If they agree, credit them and link to their website etc. I'd advise against just grabbing the art and using it as you'll most likely be swarmed with DMCA takedowns if the artist finds out. Or you can find art that is for Non-Commercial use if you said you don't plan on monetizing it, but again you'll have to credit the actual owner of said art.

Asking an Artist to work for free without you planning on paying them/monetizing your projecting would burn out the artist and not make him carry on, as stated above.

I'm sort of in a similar scenario. I'm also trying to develop my first game, and want to feature 2d art, but have no artistic talent to produce my own stuff. Though I know money is of course the main obstacle I think if you have a solid basis for a game than you might be able to convince people to help donate to the effort. Maybe try releasing a demo version first and if people like it you can ask them to help you pony up the cash to hire an artist on commission.

Understandable. But the best advice I can give anyone who thinks wow that simple to make a porn game. Needs to do their research first. Even if you hire someone to do art of renders for your game you should have at least a basic working knowledge of things like Paintshop and Daz so you know the time it takes to make the art you need. Also whether it's RPGM, Ren'py, Unity or Unreal. Also, realize when you dedicate to making a game it's 24/7/365 tell it's completed. If your not sure you can flip your life upside down to do this. Don't go on Patreon asking for people to dedicate a monthly amount.

Very good point. I made random crappy demos in rpg maker for a couple of years before I asked for others money. With the current project I think I spent maybe $100 on a few characters with no emotes, clothing options, or anything just to show where "there is where the art goes" basically. Then I just focused on what I could make myself until had a playable build. Took 5 months. Then got swamped by rl stuff for a bit, barely making ends meet, but working on the project every now and then usually for 45 minutes before work for the last 6 months. I got back the $100 I spent from a single patron (who knows why he supported me so) and now that I managed to not only catch up on my bills but make an extra $5,000 working my ass off, I'm going to see if throwing $1,000 or so and more hard work makes the game worth something to others as well. Which it might not even bring me a return and in that case, I've only spent what's expendable to me and I'll continue to work towards a game that I want to exist if for no other reason than I want to play it.

Bit of a random rant, not sure where I was going there with it. Just make sure if you're making something try to make the kind of game you want to exist above all others. Like The Turning Project to me is the adult game I would want to play but couldn't find something like it already out there.

Thanks, guys for your answers !!
Where do you guys contact or find an artist? I can do a demo and pay like 100 or 200$ just so I can see if people will like it and support me on pantreon or not, but my biggest problem is the networking... I don't have any contact and don't know where I can find it...

I tried some googling into deviant art website but none answers my emails (in the other hand the post were old from 2012 to 2015 lol)

Can you guys please help me about where I can find a good 2dcg artist?

All of my fave artists are active on Pixiv. Plenty of proper ero-manga artists use that site to show off their works. I'm sure some of them would be willing to work for you on commission, so long as you google translate your request into their respective first language. If you're not sure where to look try and find artists who've done work for other games you've enjoyed. As for getting out word of your game try posting it onto other forums like this one, or porn torrenting sites, since people there are bound to be interested in the subject matter, and maybe social media as well. It couldn't hurt to have a twitter page for the game development that's linked to your patreon account.

All the artist I've ever worked with have come from Deviantart. However something I tweeted about should be noted,

"Over the last few days I've interviewed a couple dozen artist for the position I'm looking for. None of which were all that great. What I realized is the best people I've ever worked with didn't come from job ads, I had reached out to them. I guess what I'm saying is...

The people that are best at what they do don't look for work, they already have it. The work comes to them."

That number grew up to 40 people interviewed from the job posting on Deviantart and you know how many of those made it to the final stage of getting the job?

0. The artist I went with I found through searching for art styles similar to my current one. Not only did I end up finding a guy who could do the job well but he also could animate it which wasn't even something I was looking for but will certainly be doing now.

Thanks, yriok993, I just subscribed and sent a couple messages to some artists in Japanese and one in Korean (Thanks to Google Translate for that lol). I hope they will answer me.

DakotaLDE, the art you showed in attached files is really awesome!!. May I ask you if you pay a commission or if you pay your artist hourly? And how much? (Just for the record if possible).

Thank you so far, guys!!

There's a lot of variables and I may not be able to discuss the exact pay of my freelancers but I can give you tips and info.

• I pay everyone based on task completed. I have a trello setup with task cards describing what we need to make both for my team and our followers to see. My team members tell me in private quotes for each task. It's up to them to decide how much time and skill goes into each task and charge me accordingly.

• I don't do hourly for The Turning Project at all. I don't think hourly is very plausible for indies like you and I. Only if you have a legit studio with a budget of tens or hundreds of thousands and a very good way to track work like everyone being in an office.

• Some freelancers will charge you less if you provide reliable work. By this I mean an artist might charge $60 for their art from randoms on deviantart, but they may only charge $40 per if you prove you can keep giving them work back to back.

I'd be happy to talk a lot more with you, shoot me a DM and ask questions. I'll give advice where I can n_n

There are LOTS of amateur artists out there who do it for fun or dream of becoming pro's. Post what you want and what you can pay. Offer whatever in a post describing exactly what you want and what you'll pay and offer pay on acceptance. IE they produce what you want... you pay them and own that particular content
