It's hard to say. Sometimes I like to play the game straight through and appreciate all of the content, but for the most part, I just bee-line for the new stuff when it comes out. I will admit though, I have a vested interest in this change more than usual since as someone who's seen them talk about this change again and again, I'm interested to see how it turns out. Knowing that many of their design changes come from their highest paying patreons, patreon surveys, and from the more trusted people on their Discord, I can say for a fact that many of these designs are not concrete.
With that being said, I can't say I find the new battle UI overtly good or bad. This is mainly because I see this as a gateway for more intensive UI changes that will benefit the game further down the line. As for the hard to read text, you may or may have not noticed but they added black font to the options menu in the game. It only affects the dialogue, but it at least shows that readability issues are known to the Majalis crew. In fact, UI scaling has been present in the patreon surveys for a while now. It hasn't been chosen yet so fingers crossed that it gets chosen this month.
It probably won't though. Their surveys usually go something like this.
