"Porn games" have and still do deliver some of the best storytelling in the industry so decrying the intention of discussion just on the basis of them having erotic content is a bit...you know.

For the record, DC also used to be lead art director for a major studio as well, but got tired of the way the industry was going, and started this to learn a bit of coding. To his great surprise, his little test project became popular.

Did not know that. :O Just knew he was an artist, but I didn't know he used to be in the industry prior to SS. Then again, I've only been a patron for a couple of months, and haven't really had the time to check out much of anything except a couple of his streams.

You just never know what tidbit you might pick up during the streams, he also used to know people at BioWare before they became BiowEAr, and all the good people quit. He started this to learn some Python, so that's why the older code sucks to hard, and why it's having to be redone before saves will work, and work better, and so on. I mean, I am just happy the saves are about 1/10 the size they used to be.

No shit :O Going to have to start hanging around in the streams more, only caught two so far and both were quick visits.
I do like that DC is very interactive with his patrons though, a lot of devs interact with their patrons but can't think of any who'll do it on a level like DC.
That being said, SS is only my second game that I've become a patron to, so can't claim much direct experience with many other devs.

I think one of the main factors is that DC doesn't really want to let go of anything that's important art wise as long as it's not 100% as he wants it. I think DC mentioned that there's not much to do background wise when it comes to Jenny's update and for 0.17 he did quite a few of them himself on stream himself ... which does make sense, given that backgrounds have been one thing he was always able to stream without spoiling too much.
In the end he changes his mind about those things over time. About a year ago for example he was talking about hiring an assistant who would then cut and adapt those old sprites for a potential new rig system. Now he decided to redraw and actually improve those characters himself. That's of course a nice improvement for the game's quality but a substancial loss of time.
I'm somewhat convinced that at this moment he doesn't really want anybody else to draw the art but himself. I don't really blame him for that since it's his game after all and the art is by far the most important part of it.
