As of now for people who have opted into the Steam Client Beta, you can mark individual games in your library as private. Meaning that you can still share all your other games but keep certain ones always hidden regardless of the overall library privacy setting.

I always refused to buy any adult games on Steam specifically because i have real life contacts on my friend list and some things are just better kept unknown. This new feature was just announced and is only available in beta so i don't trust it yet. But maybe in the future i'll be more willing to buy adult games on Steam.

What do you think? I want to point out that they conveniently introduced this right before the big sale. I imagine that adult games in general will see a spike in purchases.

..but Steam still doesn't have an adult verification system for adult games.
In Germany the games are hidden/blocked with ~ “This game is not available in your country” ~
Because it's easier to block an entire country than to develop/code an age verification.

In 2013 I bought the game "Saints Row 3" ( age 18+ ) with my credit card,
but Germans are banned from adult games, no matter how old they are.
So I had to buy the key to e.g. "Lust from Beyond" in an online game key shop
and then use the key in steam (worked).

It took them this long to realize people value their privacy?
I think it's more likely that they have data showing increasing demand for adult games but with the lack of privacy being a blocker for that being converted into sales. I doubt they are doing this for the sake of personal privacy. Even the announcement was made literally one hour before the start of the Winter Sale.

I can finally buy Demons Roots on my main account without people thinking I'm weird
They'll just continue to think you're weird without any proof. :ROFLMAO: But yeah, that's the idea. I'm curious though, if you're playing Demon Roots as a private game, if Steam will just show you as "online" to your friends or if Steam might do something like saying you're in a game but not including the title of the game.

Also, this isn't confirmed but i read that this won't hide games in family sharing. Something to consider if you happen to be sharing your library.

I don't think it's even worth having "friends" who'll get put off by you buying and playing porn games, so if that is enough reason for them to unfriend you then they're only doing you a favor. :sneaky::coffee:

I'm gonna wait until this addition is out of beta and other users get the chance to test it.

Doesn't change anything for me since I've had an openly degenerate profile for ages, but it's nice to give users options for privacy.

My steam friends alredy know i play those games so i dont have use for it but its nice that its there but there is a little thing anoying me about it: "You will not receive Steam Trading Cards for the game while it is marked as Private." this is a small thing to have in consideration

Thanks for pointing that out. I guess i should have read the FAQ. They answered my other question about the in-game status there too--it won't show you as in-game at all.

If there a way to see the statistics on steam H-game sales, I'm sure this change sent them through the roof lmao.
