i was wondering how good idea is to do a realtime game vs a visual novel.

I think a 3d realtime have no sexual tension and requieres a nice pc.
The other option for my is prerender my modesl and animation.
What you think?
PD:i am working alone
Both cases looks lik this, real time or prerender..

Just speaking for myself and i am not trying to critizise anyones opinion. I dislike those VS Games alot. Clicking from Scene to Scene bores me quite very fast. When i play games, i'd like to do more things than reading and making a Choice every now and then. Walking around.. interacting, maybe even shaking my mouse or smashing the Keyboard to make something happen. So i'd prefer Realtime/3dgc or even Games like Slave Matrix, but anything done in Ren'py,.. i just pass on those. ;)

From my experience in filling this forum with "x vs y" threads it seems people pretty much like anything, there is an audience for both, which is cool to know.
I also made this thread: and real time hentai is more than possible to do with those specs if you know what to do.

I very much prefer VNs myself. That said, I would love to find an actually good real-time 3D porn game. I haven't yet (and maybe that's why I'm biased). Either they look terribad or they play terribad or they do have some promise but for some reason the dev quits development early on. If anyone knows any good examples that contradict my statements feel free to share :)

Now in the 2D space there are some good-ish RPGM games, but the fact that they're RPGM makes them tedious to play (I really hate that engine). I don't really know any non-RPGM real-time 2D games. Again, counter-examples very welcome.

Anyway, that's why I kinda gave up on them and these days prefer good VNs (and there are plenty of those) over not good not-VNs.

Talking creatively, I find with Real-time, even when you can make custom shader codes, you will be artistically restricted. You may not be able to go for the exact art style you want, and it takes a good amount of work to make a robust character rig/mesh.

Talking technically, real-time 3D is difficult to get working. My main issue was trying to get all the animations and sub-animations into the game engine along with the 3D model, but a lot of the time Unity wouldn't be able to detect the rest pose or the first frame, so my files would get corrupted. It would take multiple import attempts and formatting tricks to get the 3D models into my game.

the benefits of pre-rendered stuff are artistic control and it is simpler to work with images. Although images can take up a lot more memory. I tried looking into vector art to help reduce memory, but most of the time a little bit of soft shading is still needed to bring a piece to life so the memory savings are negated.

Doing 3D and then rendering it is one of the quicker ways to make art though, especially if you are alone for this project.
