I think a major reason for the "Stairway to heaven" grind has to do with the way these games are made/developed/financed. That is to say, the games are developed and released incrementally, and creating a "realistic" sex scene would involve renders and animations covering almost every step on the stairway. That would take a substantial amount of time, substantially multiplied by the number of potential partners in the game. And many devs are financing through Patreon, getting money monthly. More often than not I've seen it being explained.
