What it does IRL is you sell what you have and then you OD - that is IRL and this game would end before it got storyboarded, like the very first few updates would have wrapped that up rather quick and tidy.
Understand what it really means to be addicted
Real life means Barb would have MC on a payrole doing hard drugs and catching his dealer red handed as a confidential informant, no way would she just give another humanity extended liferaft like she does in this game - that is IRL.

IRL prosecutors and judges and cops are powerless when they hand over their hard earned huge loads of cash to their kids who buy hard drugs because for sure that is the IRL now commodity they seek - alcohool is overrated in many countries already,
as young guys around consent age now dream and talk about securing drugs for getting laid with this or that girl as sex and drugs would fill their minds and talks of a good time right now IRL.
what it takes to get well
All the guys and girls around MC cheering him on for this much of running game time is what it takes - that is the novelty, the fact even his drug dealer goes in life and limb to save MC - you will never see that IRL and this game is a wonderful treasure for that. IRL is shit and gorey for those who actually see it for what it means actually.

Anyway, the good doctor says Being a DIK won't end up that way. Some of us aren't too sure it won't, or if it even should not. But give him his due, he is a great story teller.
Don't like that game. The difficulty of the free roams is way over the top. Prefer games that don't have free roams.

See, Zoey, there is a good story in there somewhere.

Bottom line, unless you are an addict. You have no idea what it means to be one. Even if you have family who are or work at a treatment center. The best you can possibly accomplish is trying to educate yourself and support them helping themselves (which is part of what this game tries to accomplish). But, a person who is not an addict will never know the full extent of the disease.

Anyone can say whatever they'd like in response to this, but I'll stand by it until the day I'm no longer on this earth.

For personal reasons, I haven't had the opportunity to follow my Patreon as closely lately, so I haven't shared any updates from Zoey with you. I'm making up for that now with an older post and a current one. I wish you all a happy and healthy 2024 and all the best for Zoey!

Christmas 2023.jpg

It would appear Louise from Dreams of Reality and Lydia went shopping together this Christmas! Wonder if you can guess who picked out the clothes? :)

Cenc and I wanted to do a collaboration this year. He's also crafted an image of Lydia and Louise you can find on his patreon here:

As I've spoken about countless times before, and leave a link in every game release to reiterate. There would likely be no One Day at a Time if I didn't have his help in the early days learning Daz. I was quite bad, and he was better than decent with it. Now I'm pretty damn good, and he's amazing!

He gives me credit for helping with some of the narrative beats for his game in his post, but the truth is he's selling himself short as a writer. I've been nothing but a sounding board. And, he's been the same for me, whether it be with images or writing for One Day at a Time.

So, why do I like Dreams of Reality? Well, I've probably said this before. But, I decided I was going to do a walkthrough for it after playing the first chapter (there wasn't even an idea of One Day at a Time in my head at that point). What I enjoyed about his story is the fact he wasn't afraid to tackle heavy subjects. That's something I've always admired about the very few other developers who have had the courage to do it. I've never really told him this, but his game is part of what gave me the courage to do it myself with One Day at a Time.

Some people will tell you the medium we are in doesn't have room for things like this. I and every one of you who play my game (and his for that matter), will collectively tell them they're wrong! People who love our games seem to love them because not only do they have an edge, but there is also an abundance of light that shines through the darkness.

I believe I remember him telling me one of his favorite games was Acting Lessons, and it happens to be one of my favorites too. Far superior to that devs other game in my opinion. It is one of the few that dared to tackle something deeper than the surface. But, I digress (and no we're not going to be killing off any of our LI's at the end our games).

Cenc is a true friend, and has shown me kindness can actually be found on the internet (as have many of you). I can't recommend trying his game enough to those who have not yet done so. It's a joy to play each update for me and I'm honored to continue that same walkthrough I started almost three and a half years ago.

Hope you guys enjoy the images, and again... Happy Holidays to you and those you love! Cheers!

If the girls don't know they're in a harem, you don't have a harem. You're just cheating on them.
Getting started with Ren'py and having trouble? Maybe I can help.
Good point. The last thing I want is breaking Lydia's heart, or anybody else's. The first thing I want is massive love for Barb.

Well Lydia is awesome and is perfectly fine with the other girls. Some of them she loves as much as our guy does.
All girls are perfectly fine with the other girls. Doesn't mean they're not gonna ask to have you for their own at some point and get their own endings! I think the main girls deserve that.

As far as if you don't know you're in a harem you're not in a harem. This is why I use the terms harmish. Because they are all cool with each other banging MC (see I believe Ch 10 at the campground, and multiple other references I can't remember at the moment). But they aren't going to all end up in the same house. The "Harem" ending is kinda going to be "I can't choose just one of these girls". So things will end with a bunch of threesomes and MC and Lydia still living together in some capacity.

It will be the most unrealistic ending. That's why it will be the last option left if you turn Lydia down from wanting just you for herself. She'll be cool with it and you won't get married, you'll just go to the harem sort of ending and there won't be nearly as much closer as if you did all/any of the solo endings.

But, we've got plenty of stuff to get through before we even start talking about endings. Plus the relapse one will happen much earlier. Did I think this game was going to be this long when I started it, no. But, it just ended up that way. I started thinking I was going to write a novella, and I ended up writing a novel.

my old saves till chapter 10,wont work...
You have to be using season 1 of the game for them to work. As that content is absent in season 2 (which was the whole point due to file size). So, if you reinstall S1 they will work again. At least on PC/Mac and Compressed. Is it the same for Android Wills747 ?

For the Barb thing at the party I made a point of saying it would be mild but effective and I think it was. It was more "saying I love you" no matter what capacity your romantic relationship is with her at this point. MC and Mary cared enough to try and make her birthday special and get her out of hating it. And, I think they succeeded. Which was the whole point. If I went too over the top with what they do when she walks in, the party may not have achieved that. It needed to be something she wouldn't want to get revenge for.

That is correct, S1 and S2 reside in different folders. Play S1 to the end and follow instructions to have your saves migrated to S2.

Sure, it's just that several of them connect what he's planning to the thing that Barb does in restaurants, and when we finally get to see it I really don't get the connection. They're vaguely related through birthdays?

That conversation will be had at breakfast the next day. :) More in depth anyway. I considered MC going home with Barb that night. But, I realized it was just going to make the update way too long. Not to mention we really haven't had her over to the apartment under happy circumstances. The only time she's got any dialogue there is after the Rick thing.

Sure I know how it goes in porn games. I can say sorry babe, but you were not the one. In this game, though, everybody feels more vulnerable. Life is already tough here enough without some faithless horn dog. But you are scripting everybody to be fine with faithless horn dogs. Which is pretty unreal. And Lydia is sounding where I am in the game like she really needs mc to stick around. In the end, it sounds like she is willing to sacrifice everything else she might need in a relationship for that. Is that an addictive behavior? Clingy? Dependent?

I am probably expecting too much. The thing I will always remember though, is the ending of the movie "Days of wine and roses". It is the story of an alcoholic couple. He gets sober, she does not, so he must leave. In the end, she sobers up and comes to ask him to take her back, so they can be as they were at first when he was teaching her to drink. Yes, he has tremendous guilt for that. He says, no he must not do that. So she leaves. He sees her under a street light out his window. The anguish in his voice as he calls to her tears your heart.

Real, real, real.

The other part of it is that she does not return when he does that. Because she knows that she should not ask that, and in the end, she still loves him too. Oh, god.

Yes, that is one of the all-time-great stories about addiction (done wonderfully in its initial TV production and again in its movie adaptation), but it is not the story this developer wants to tell. It is his story to tell after all, and why would he want to replicate someone else's?

He wouldn't, of course. But the unreality seems out of place when the main effort is to be real about addiction.
