Yes, male and female characters are basically alike in this respect. Again, Daz doesn't publish "anatomical element" textures for non-adult characters (male or female), so perhaps that's why it didn't work on some.

Earlier, I mentioned third-party genitalia for females that could be added to characters for which Daz doesn't publish textures. There are also corresponding male genitalia - the Dicktator series from Renderotica comes to mind. (By default, those gens tend to be, well, "a bit oversized,"
