y'know, just one little question since this is getting my inner gremlin acting up
I love modding the weapons, if only for how much fun the descriptions for some of them are (looking at you smartlink integration for the zapper)
what i wanna know is, where can i get more bits for modding them? I wanna completely overhaul my aresenal but i'm cripplingly low on bits, made only more painful looking at bio right next to it, and i've got 80 of that but only 10 bits.
You can scrap the following for bits:
  • Broken Chain, dropped by Drikk
  • Chewed Up Keycard, dropped by Mimic
  • Ransacked Medkit, dropped by Veil and Mimic
Busted Terminals also yield bits, but I think you only get them from a couple one-time fights.

This might be a bug, I'm not sure. When you beat the game...

You can keep doing this over and over, and your stats will continue to increase with no apparent limit. Is this a fun little bonus for beating the game, to let the player juice up stats, or is this an oversight?

Apologies for the lack of responses, been busy with life. But I appreciate the continued feedback and comments!

Whoops! Not actually intentional, no. Buuuuut... sort of fun. And you -did- beat the game, so... eh, might not fix that one. ♥

  • Sex scenes: I avoided them really as I did not like loosing, and I roleplayed Mio as pretending to not be interested.
Just in case it isn't apparent, you also unlock scenes by winning! They can be viewed at any time back at the pod. Thank you for the kind words, and I'm glad you enjoyed my game!

Oh yes, I saw that, it's just I was enjoying the game more than the porn haha :)

I'll add that Mio is a fantastic protagonist. She has such a defined personality with goals, fears, hesitations...And the epilogue just made me so happy.

Sounds good (y)

Here are a few more oddities I noticed.
  • When you complete the quest involving M4X and iRIS, both buy and sell prices are permanently reduced, not just buy prices.
  • In the Resolver's information window, the description for the Bullet Rain special attack states a cost of 75 Flow, but it actually costs 60 Flow. The in-battle description correctly mentions the 60 Flow cost.
  • The Leathegg behaves unexpectedly:
    • Its description mentions that it decreases Agility, but it instead increases it by 3.
    • It advertises effects that decay or recover each turn, but the stat boosts instead last for the rest of the battle. The stats partially revert to normal after battle, only fully reverting after you move once.
  • I'm not 100% sure on this next one. The Reactive Biosuit mentions that it lowers your resistance to the burning status effect, but as far as I can tell, that doesn't actually happen.

Whoops! I'll get those fixed when I can. I'm sitting on a 1.0.8 of minor fixes, it'll be bundled with them.

The buy/sell prices both being reduced is an oversight, I'll have to figure out where I went wrong with that. Everything is just me messing up.

E: All fixed! Thank you!

You're very welcome. I really enjoyed the game, so this is the least I could do :coffee: Thank you for making such a fun experience.

There's one thing I was wrong on, I'm sorry. Bullet Rain actually costs 50 Flow in battle, so both the weapon window's skill description and the in-combat skill description are off.

For some reason, it's impossible to try to scroll the sidebars on mobile. It's insanely difficult to play without the ability to see all the information on them.

That's because the game isn't set up for mobile. The OP doesn't list it as a platform - both here and on itch.io - and under Developer Notes;

Please note that while the game -can- be launched on mobile/tablet devices, it probably isn't going to be a pleasant experience on anything other than a tablet. Game was made with 1080 in mind - larger resolutions can use accessibility text scaling or browser zoom in, lower resolutions may need to browser zoom out to fit the sidebar content.
Apologies, but it's my limitations as a designer. Mobile support would require a completely different set up, and that's beyond my capabilities (and beyond my 00.00 budget of hiring someone smarter than me to do it.)

Amazing story, detailed mechanics, flesh-out characters... Overall a very solid game
I'd rate it 10/10 if only it's a little bit longer! In my opinion, the fact that it's "short" makes some (great) features barely useable. For example, I didn't remember/see any 'sleight' or 'performance' check in the whole game. And I didn't see any situation where the 'sex appeal' or 'intimidation' bonus from clothing were applicable
I know you graciously give us this amazing game for free, but for me it would make everything better if there are around 3 missions that Mio have to complete before a final ending. Did you ever have that kind of plan during the game development?

There's a performance check to fool a voice lock near the start of the game and sleight makes the lock pick minigame easier but the 'sex appeal' and 'intimidation' for clothing were cut.
To my understanding the game was actually planned to be smaller, just a sort of short test for the engine and had a bit of scope creep instead.

Do you want to update us on what you are working on or do you prefer to wait till you are ready to release before talking about your next game?

Glad you enjoyed the game! No, MERCANOID was built alongside my reusable framework for future games, so once the systems were complete I developed it further into a short but hopefully memorable game that shows off as much as I can. Dev fatigue set in, and I eventually decided I could keep working on this forever or I could get it out the door, get some eyes on me, and move on to something bigger.

A MERCANOID of 3 times the length probably wouldn't have been free!

Correct on those two instances of Perform. Sex Appeal and Intimidation are functioning systems, but are not present in MERCANOID itself.

I have begun work on my next game after bouncing off a few different ideas, actually. I'm not going to announce it yet, but some key points;
- Semi-urban Fantasy setting to contrast MERCANOID's Sci-fi, set in a town of monsterfolk.
- Set back on Terra, pre-Stars era, but late into the World era. Terra is a united world where the mundane and the magical have been mixed.
- MUCH larger in scale than MERCANOID, but with far greater variety of locations and situations. More lighthearted in tone.
- A change to how I approach some zones - Dungeons will utilize MERCANOID's tile-by-tile exploration, whereas safe, social areas like the main town hub utilize a more traditional text adventure link-to-link, place-to-place interface.
- It's gunna be a while before I'm close to any sort of announcement. Work is keeping me busy.
- Finally, this won't be a free game. I'm aiming to deliver a strong demo, a day 0 full-game 'update' for buyers, and then updates to expand and finish off the game. I won't be launching a 0.01 alpha, so get comfy, it'll be a while.

While I did have ambitions of releasing my games for free on a Pay-What-You-Want system, MERCANOID's shown that isn't particularly viable; I don't mind sharing that outside of money from friends, it's turned over around ~£200 since launch.

I would love to be able to do this for a living, but I can't do that without money. I don't want to do a Patreon or any such similar model. I'd rather have a game(s) I can ask for a bit of money for, that I can put on sale, and that I can hopefully start bundling once I'm further into my career/catalogue. ♥

If you're really hungry for updates, I try to post wips and progress reports on my Discord - in my sig. I'm in the boring period of laying out the game's skeleton up to a certain point, so there's not much to say at the moment.

wait a minute, this game already had a way lighter tone than most any other tentacle games i've seen, how much lighter can you get without going blind?

The protagonist is effectively a slave who's having freedom dangled in front of her for the first time, it's fairly high-stakes. My tone can be jokey and fun, but I'm sure some people consider MERCANOID dark. Perhaps it's more accurate to say that my next project is lower-stakes.

Glad to see this clarification, some of my favorite scenes in this are probably considered on the darker side of tone, with the Goo girls and lamia coming to mind. Will be excited to see your larger project in the future if the scenes and characters will be held to similar standards as this ones, though I hope to see more intimate/lewd scenes of the protagonist with companions in that project, was fairly light on that here.

well this is what i get for focusing on the wrong parts i suppose, I just see tentacle monsters who just want to fuck mio into a cum-soaked mess instead of some sex-torture nonsense and I'm perfectly happy seeing something less rape and misery. maybe this is saying more about me than the game though

I will absolutely never write miserable/traumatic sex in my smut games, nah. This doesn't mean I can't still write characters with problems to overcome, or 'dark' encounters! But I'll see where my whims guide me on this project.

As for more scenes with other characters rather than /monsters/, yeah, I wanna do much more of that, with a scenario/setting that's better suited for such things. Ties in nicely with Morale, which for Mio is a simple mechanic and buff based on your engagement with the side content - for larger projects, it's a good excuse for nice little distractions for the protagonist to engage in, be they wholesome or lewd~.

What a cute game! The whole way through I was imagining it like it was an ooey-gooey gay version of System Shock. It even ends with a final boss where you gotta shoot the big, stationary guy. I love shooting the big guy!

Shooting the Big Stationary Guy is important! But yes, haha! I never actually got around to finishing either System Shock game (should probably check out the remake they did recently), but there's a fair bit of FPS inspiration behind Mio and MERCANOID. The Drikk in particular are inspired by every sci-fi shooter's obligatory 'lots of little annoying fuckers' enemy type, pft.

I'm glad you enjoyed your time with the game! ♥
