Register a Mega account (if you haven't yet) and install MEGAsync application. Use it to download large files instead of your browser.

mega files are encrypted, and have to be decrypted after downloading
this can be harsh on older hardware

If you're using the MEGAsync application to download files, be sure to keep the web-page open until it reaches 100%.
Even though the MEGAsync application should handle everything, on some systems it communicates with the browser when making sure the entire file is downloaded.

If you have an older laptop/PC, Linux may be better for it and may help with problems caused by old hardware, regardless of this MEGA Sync would help.
