Right, thought the hook might be the issue so that makes sense - but can't find text on the parsing section, and can't install it as a custom hook. I'm running windows 10 though, so that might change things :')
Options>Text capture>Install user hook
how do I translate to eng ?
Read the installation instructions.

Atlas v14 full
Just change the date to pre 2009 before installing, change it back after install, copy crack over install directory and voila , you're good to go!

Don't mean to be a bother on this
You're not being a bother, just it's really annoying because it seems that windows 10 has a problem with RPGM and chiitrans, at this point you're better off installing VNR which is a all in one translator that will run with the game and will probably translate it on the first try.

I have windows 10 and Chiitrans and RPGM work just fine. I think Chiitrans is better than VNR anyway.

but aside from that it doesn't seem to respond

You could try installing the VX Ace tool, and I know I spent 7 hours yesterday troubleshooting it because some users simply can't get the program to "register" on their computer because chiitrans can't detect the words popping up and ITH(a program used for extracting text) didn't want to attach itself to the program on the users computer. My computer on the otherhand simply reads the program so it's really weird.

Well I managed to get translated text, but with other programs.
I used AGTH for clipboard copying and Translation Aggregator for translations.
I dragged the folders out to the Desktop so it's easier to find them. The formatting could be better, but it's enough for me.

The text data goes like this: Game > AGTH > Clipboard > Translation Aggregator

I downloaded AGTH and followed the instructions .
For some reason, each character is copied twice so you need to go to options and check Remove 1 repetition of each symbol. This option doesn't save, at least to the extent of my knowledge,so you have to check every time unfortunately. Make sure the auto copy to clipboard options is checked too.

I downloaded Translation Aggregator .
It gives you many options for what you want to use to translate. I closed all the boxes in Translation Aggregator except original and Google so it only shows Google translation which I think is better than ATLAS. Also you're going to need an internet connection for it to work. Click the clipboard icon next to Google for automatic clipboard translation. The translation is still iffy, but you should be able to piece things together. Years of absorbing the Japanese language through popular culture also helps.

So in total, you should have 3 screens:
  1. The Game
  2. AGTH
  3. Translation Aggregator
Should look like this:

Right, I'm getting somewhere with this. Only issue now is with connecting TA to AGTH - any advice on that? I can't seem to spot info on Hongfire.
Thanks :D
You shouldn't need to connect those 2. It goes Game>AGTH>Clipboard>TA.

Did you follow the instruction on the AGTH site?

Well bear in mind that it's not going to be translated well. Probably equivalent to those auto-translated russian porn games.

Alright, so I got Chiitrans translating English with Google and it seems to work fairly well. Haven't had a problem with understanding what's being said, that is. And there's no need to actually install anything.

Download but you don't need to extract the whole file. Go into the "www" file, then the "js" file, then replace the translators.js and translators.coffee (not to be confused with the translat(ion).js) files in your normal chiitrans folder with the new ones. Open up chiitrans and click the options cogwheel on the bottom left. Go down to translation, then hit the "additional translators" button. Make sure that only Google is in the left window, then apply. Now follow the instructions of the original post and you should have beautiful, if not a bit broken, English. I'd recommend keeping the translation display on "both". Not only does it tell you what is currently being displayed, so you know it's correct. But, it also fixed an issue I had with nothing being displayed on the translator tab.
