No you're right, that's not a good solution. You didn't say what AV software you use but most of them let you whitelist a specific folder, so if you're using something that isn't properly detecting viruses you can make an exception for a folder. If you've ever pirated games or apps you already know sometimes you need to do this.
If you use Microsoft defender then recently it was giving a false positive, but I submitted the latest version of ktt.exe and KronosTimeTitan.exe to Microsoft and they did a deep scan and have whitelisted the game.
