You want an example? Corruption, by Mr. C. When you bring a character to her highest level of corruption and enslave her you lose access to all previous sex options and it's been that way for a long time since the slave content for said character hasn't been implemented until recently and only partially.
But the whole point remains: games have a start and a finish, a fortiori games that aren't yet finished. The game is in development, every update has a start and an end. There is repeatable content in this game and there is not repeatable content (story scenes are one-shot). You are given a clear warning before locking Maria's repeatable content at the end of 0.5, it's your choice to play through it and save afterwards. You could do like me, wait for 0.6 before proceeding. You didn't. Is it the author's fault or a game flaw? It is not. It is a feature to enforce realism. The story makes Maria reconsider the situation and it wouldn't be coherent to then go on as if nothing happened.
If there was no warning, I'd understand your complaint, but there is a clear warning.

Regarding Autumn, she is easily convinced of your good faith and virtue, but she's not dumb. She has a set of very religious values and won't certainly just give her body to you because you ask or come out with some dumb excuse. She's supposed to be a hard to get by and hard to seduce character. That's her appeal and her very design. If you don't like her, there's not much it can be done, you simply don't like the character. It happens.
For instance, I don't like Felicity and I think Lin is best girl, but that's subjective.
One game hardly makes normal and transitioning from one set of content to a set of slave content is very different from blocking content with no replacement. And f you learnt to read I repeatedly said I am not completing the story line as most wont which is why it makes the whole thing redundant waste of time. You keep talking about realism but then happy to ignore totally ridiculous that included in game. Androids and elves fine and a totally trusting and gullible overly sheltered woman of blind faith takes ridiculous grind to get nowhere but tell her your celibate and anti porn but if dont cum she strips off to give you fap material but MC is to dumb to talk her into bed FFS that is as ridiculous as it gets. She is as dumb as a post, when asked directly about her rules of faith she has no answers just blind faith with no knowledge fed to her by parents same for her Elf freedom efforts when questioned by Lin she had no answers and denied anything that questioned church even from an eye witness, she has massive blinkers and has demonstrated no intelligence and has worked her whole life in a coffee shop. Aloofness, arrogance and sense of superiority do not make intelligence and are easily manipulated, the twins would be much harder to crack in realty because of their innate distrust created by father issues.
Anyway this debate pointless so will agree to disagree with one eyed fan boy. Sorry like game but much better storylines with better games will be ones that keep getting my patreon money. He is far from winning me over with character inconsistencies and levels of grinding needed and bringing backtracking into an already grindfest is not going to win over new fans.

I am very curious on what your definition of 'grinding' is. What I understand is 'reading' is hard for you and what you consider a grind.

All stats can be ignored, stats rarely effect the story as well. So you don't need to buy outfits, or unlock traits for them. You don't need to unlock the bar, or watch them shower. To play the game though, you need to read the story. So from what I understand, reading means grinding for you. If you don't like visual novels, don't play them.

And if I understand correctly, you're upset that you had to play the game, then wait 5 days while Maria thinks about herself (This is how long she's supposed to locked). Yes, she was technically locked for 2 ish months while the update was going, but honestly, I've never seen so much hype for Maria before. Never have I seen so many people talk about Maria than after that update.

Autumn isn't dumb, but she is a bit naive. She's stuck in her own personal logic, and if you play around that logic, you can get whatever you want from her. And she only has 13 story events, which means clicking 13 times on her door to read the story. If that's grind to you, it must be hard to blink.

All characters start in their most flawed state, which is generally how stories are written, or in other words, "rags to riches". Rags to riches is the most popular form of story telling because we like to see progression.

Anyway, that's sort of all I want to say. Everything else you've complained about has been explained in game, and since reading is apparently hard for you, I don't expect you to read the story and understand what's going on.

edit: I can totally understand if you don't like the characters, or their stories, or the game as a whole. Your opinion is perfectly fine with me.

I fully agree (except for the PS about Ashley. Ashley is a great character but not my favorite). Version 0.6 introduces a lot more characters to the game, especially side characters. There will also be additional slaves that can be purchased in version 0.7.

I like the bar idea.

It is interesting that so many new characters are popping up when there is so little content for Autumn, Emma, and Felicity. There is also plenty more story to tell for the "original" hotel residents (Android, Lin, Kali, Ashley, Maria, Felicity, Emma, and Autumn). I personally would rather have a focused game rather than continually adding more and more new characters to keep the game alive.

So your post is very thoughtful and correct in my opinion. There are tons of more possibilities with the original girls in the hotel. After the MC's sister is introduced, I'd like to see work on Harem Hotel 2 or another creative project.

Runey does an awesome job on this game!
Felicity and Emma are basically caught up with the rest of the girls. They're only 3 - 4 events behind most of the girls, and Autumn is around 13 events behind most of the girls. This was also a complaint when Android showed up, but she caught up quickly due to me having less stories to juggle. All of the new girls get special treatment to get caught up by having more story than the older girls.

I don't really sacrifice main girls stories for side girls stories, but I can see how it seems that's the case. I just make story when I think of it, and I think of it a week before I start development on the update. Sometimes I have story for the update after, but typically not. So this update, I had a lot of stories in mind for side characters, and I also wanted to make the game broader. But side characters wont be having the same focus as main characters. They'll just be getting some fun story lines whenever they pop into my head.

So it turns out Renpy supports updates:
You must be registered to see images

("Build Updates" was a feature I had to enable in the script)

I don't know exactly how this works, but I'm assuming I would click that button and once it's built, and when you launch the game, it'd ask you to update. This means you wouldn't have to redownload the full game every update.
That's , right? Sounds like it would be useful, assuming you have a webserver available.
@Runey, if you don't have a webserver available I'd be more than happy to host it for you, I'd have to see what the requirements are

Thank you! I actually have a friend who has offered to do some hosting for me. I'm still not exactly sure what all needs to be done, or how expensive it will be, or even how many people will use the update feature. But if it works, it sounds like a great way to update.

Sounds awesome, but let me know if I can help in any way, of course it'd be no charge for you :)

Do you know if this feature is available for Android devices (the phone OS, not the character toys :p )?

I did tell you, because 'sex sells', and this is something that some people find easy enough to do (I wish I was one of them, but that level of coding is beyond a dyslexic like me), which means that because so many people can make something, the 'market' gets flooded with them (and there will always be a market for sex stuff, especially in places where they repress their sexuality). It's as simple as that. I mean, as I started last time, there are actually a great many reasons, far more than the short list I gave before, but this isn't the place for that.
But, if you are trying to use that as a defense of reading and writing, you need to take a long close look at some of these games, few are even up to this level of writing, and many are downright painful to read (even if some of those are still fun to play). Don't get me wrong, I am glad people are reading anything, but most of the stuff here is not what you would call 'high literature'.
Especially if you consider the amount of non native English speaker that are into this niche business. If a need for literature was the cause of the popularity, it'd be unexplainable why so many devs that speak English only as a second language are successful. Even more, there would be no explanation for the amount of Japanese products that get translated by amateurs, a process through which any semblance of artistic expression usually get crushed.

The success of the Visual Novel genre is due in most part to the low technical level of entry, just like the abundance of JRPGs is due to the availability at a reasonable price of the RPGM framework, that allows even non programmers to concoct a game.

Besides, this kind of endeavour tends to be a solo man one, which further pushes towards less mechanics intensive games to bypass the need for good coding and level design skills, thus allowing the author to cover for all facets of the game instead of relying on a development team with different skillsets.
