We do judge a book by its cover, and in this case, by screenshot.

Which game you thought is just another generic porn game but managed to surprise you when you play it?

Urban demons....
Almost 2 years ago (i think) i played A Zombie's Life(from the same Dev) and i loved that game, but i never started Urban Demons because i thought i was crap and something always stopped me from playing it.
Played it for the first time somewhere around a half year ago and since then it's become one of my favorite games of all and especially with ChillyScholar's mod it has become amazing... Simply amazing for me.

But it works the other way around to.
Snow Daze: The music of the Winter looked like a amazing game for me, but was complete crap when playing it.

Everything is off course personal preference ;)

Melty's Quest. I used to assume that all games made with rpgmaker were shit. I ended up playing over 10 hours of Melty's Quest and majority of that was with both my hands on the controller. I will never look at rpgmaker games the same way again.

Proteus effect and A dance with rogues, purely thanks to being positively surprised by their writing as it is difficult to get a grasp on writing quality before playing a game.
Usually shit devs suck at all aspects of presentation so you tend to have pretty good idea what you're getting from the get go. Theres always red flags.
Snow Daze and Orange trainer were the opposite in the game being exact opposite of what I wanted it to be, like the dev went out of his way to disappoint.

Zum Damenhaus. Uninspiring graphics, but the gameplay has potential and there's a good amount of content.
