I dont think you understand why she did that nor why the son asked her to.

Realistically speaking, how many people would actually assume that the son fucked the mother, did they show off their love to the world. How many people would go out of their way to find who the father of mom's child is, and if a DNA test is done, then the alibi is for nothing (DNA test is the only concrete proof). Best way to hide something is in plain sight.
BTW the dating route wasn't the wrong choice, the sleeping with them part was. How or why would someone track down the random dude(s) and ask if he/they slept with the mom, and that they got her pregnant. and if they do do a DNA test and it is revealed that neither of the men she slept with was the father then what. Just seeing her in public, dating other men would've been enough, maybe the guy walking till her "Hotel Room" to drop her off would be enough.

It seems living in the internet made people deluded on how the real world works, clouding their judgement and ability to assess outside the box. It's not about someone asking who the child belongs to nor proving a DNA test whatsoever, it's about planting an alibi, making someone believe they are the father of an uncommitted relationship, of an uncommitted love. Making people around her believe she bare an unwanted, rebound child after her past love's separation and divorce. Making people believe she can't love or commit again; making people believe it was a mistake she needed to bare, alone rather than forcing herself into another committed relationship. That the mother already loves somebody else's, her son, which she can easily reject the "assumed" father or the man rejecting her. Regardless, alibi has been planted.
It's about thinking outside the box.
