I had the same issue.
Did you try to load a save prior to v0.4? It worked for me.

yay...update..i enjoy this..sure the art is sims and kinda creepy at times..but its a fun game..and isnt fun what we all need as we sit staring at the screen waiting for death to finally arrive?
is this current update the whole story or is there more to download? thanks for anyone who responds
Strangely, but I can't start this game at all. There is only window with different patreon upsells (nine of them, to be precise), load, etc, no start game at all...
