Do you have any personal rules when deciding to play/replay a game?

For example, I never play games that are demos/0.1 versions. And also anytime I decide to replay a game I always wait for two updates before playing again as to not frustrate myself out real quick for lack of content etc. I know many of you from the comments in this site avoid RPGM engine or certain tags.

I don't play male MC games often. I'm not male, can't relate and it kills my immersion but on the flip side of that there are so many female MC games where the woman is an idiot just there to be blackmailed, coerced and/or raped by old fat blokes. If I don't find young good looking men attractive then old fat blokes certainly aren't going to flood my panties.

My favourite games are in RPGM with RPG's being the kind of games I love. I tend to avoid VN's, there are very few of those I bother with and those that I do of varying quality. If it's a VN then i'm looking for Yuri and romance/love stories and those vary so wildly in quality. There are those that I adore like the Sono series and then you have tripe like Wilting Aramanth that goers from "hi" to "let's get married" in the space of 4 conversations. I kid you not, one minute the MC is saying she needs to go home then 10 minutes (again, i'm not joking it was that short) she's agreeing to marry a girl she's barely spoke to and only just kissed.

My biggest gripe is the lesbian tag. I will be looking for something new and see the lesbian tag and rush in like a kid in a candy shop just to have wished I read the rest of the tags as i'm playing generic male MC number 21934745 and the only lesbian action is a brief scene with 2 women before the penis joins in and that is the biggest ruiner of orgasms I can think of.

To replay, it's simple, I like a game, I haven't played in a while, I restart.

For playing, the only hard rules for me are: no loli/shota, no incest, no rape fest jap rpgs. After that, I very rarely play Daz + Renpy, they are many and never get my attention. In fact if there's any criteria it's that: a game must have something to offer me beyond what the other 1000 games do.

Order of things I look at before I download a game:
  1. Game engine. Certain game engines are a no no. They are annoying, they eat resources like chrome eats RAM, they are hell to cheat in, and most likely will have a shit interface.
  2. Images. Whether it's the banner or previews. Certain art, or types of editing will just throw me off.
  3. Genres. For obvious reasons.
  4. Overview. What type of game it is, what it's about, etc, will make a significant difference on whether I'll play it or not.
  5. Version. If it's the first version and I'm seeing that the file size is 40MB whilst the previews have 3 pics of people fucking I can rather guess that the story, plot, characters, w/e is not to my liking. Not always the case, but I'd reckon it is 95% of the times.
  6. Developer. If the dev has made shit games that I recognize, I'll probably ignore it.
Replaying:
  1. No. Just no. I don't like to play through something where I know the outcome, or play to get different outcomes. It's just boring and a waste of time.

I only have 1 rule: I want to be entertained. If I don't feel entertained, then I won't care for the game at all. Ofc I also go for/avoid certain fetishes, but that is more like guidelines, rather than actual rules.

Replay a game ? ... which mean the game must be completed first. Sadly, rare case in this site.
I have collection of complete games that I stored in case I can't access internet for months due to can't paid the bill. But rarely it happening since my financial is now steady and better of to play latest games or updates.

To play I mostly look at art, I don't like floating characters in 3dcg, huge bonus if they have redheads.
If I see grinding I quit and delete instantly.
My no go are loli and futa.

I don't replay most games.

I often steer clear of RPGM games that don't have combat, why use RPGM if you're not taking advantage of the engine? just use ren'py or unity, both are far more friendly to the player when just navigating around town.

Engrish is incredibly annoying, if i find a game has significant Engrish i just close it and never come back, i can accept some shoddy renders but not Engrish, i'm weird on that one.

If a game has underage content as a theme i'm out, same with scat, rape(as a main theme) and bestiality, not my thing at all.

Deciding if i'll play, good images help as do an interesting premise, a school sim or whatever doesn't do it for me much anymore, they aren't going to surpass superpowered or summertime saga on that front any time soon so i give it at least till 0.3 or 4 before i even think about downloading, a dev that i'm aware of helps too, frankly whatever Sin from DoD puts out next i'll look into at least once, same could be said of DrPinkCake from acting lessons.

when to replay, that's far more specific, depends on the format of the game, episodic VN's like DoD and acting lessons i play each ep, something more free form like superpowered or LLTP i generally wait three updates, or wait for a story based update, more content to explore that way and less grinding.

I mostly look for the type of art and the genre. But I can overlook bad art (up to a point) if the genre looks promising as well as the other way around.

I try to slightly avoid RPGM games, as they tend to eat up a lot of your time. Most of the time is spent walking around, and the fact that the text is laggy and that there is no roll back is also very annoying. That said, there are also some really really good RPGM games which I wouldn't like to have missed, like Coceter Chronicles etc.

I also try to avoid 0.1 releases, except when they are from a dev that I like or if they look amazingly promising. With linear-ish VN's, such as Our Fate, I think it's actually a lot of fun to experience the story through monthly updates and starting early makes you more invested in such stories.

So in general, it's a bit of something. Generally I think that if the game ticks off more than two of the above boxes, I'll probably try it. But that's also depending on my amount of free time as well as the amount of other games that I still have to play.

As for replaying, only and very rarely if the story is extremely good. In most games, in which there is e.g. a true love branch and a harem branch, I just create two sets of saves for each update, but I wouldn't call this replaying. One of the few games where replaying is more or less a must is GGGB, just because of the amount of branches.

A game with loli, mind control, incest, rape, pregancy and/or corruption tag's draw my interest.
Female domination is a big no.
Sisification is a big no.
NTR is a big no(rivals to be defeated via manipulation are a good thing, sleeping with someone else its property is only done for the thrill of getting cought).
I also avoid episodic games becames fuck clif hangers.
I want to play a full game.
Mass effect cured my of episodic games.

For me it is all about power and control.
I like games that make me feel like i have power over others.
For example a game where i manipulate a mother into breaking up with her husband then making her so obsessed with me that she eagerly helps me break her daughters into my personal fuck toys is fun.
The sex could be horrible and i would still enjoy it because i love mind games.
Likewise a game where a woman just trows herself at me is boring(no conques, no victory, no control)
And a game where a woman tries to rule over me?
Unless it is a bitch breaking game(aka the goal of the game is to get her to submit to me) it is a big no, no.

General speaking i am sceptical about rmg games(walking simulators more often then not)
Aswhile as visual novals(most are linear of can be with choices being do you want to move left or right and no it doesnt mather you get the same story regardless with only one or two dialog change's)
This isnt always true just most of the time.
Text based games i got a kind of love-hate relationship with.
They tent to offer more freedom(And thereby more control for the player)
But if i cant put face's with the names then all npc become the same and i cant tell them apart.
Japeneese games i useall avoid because there even worse the visual novels.
Pity i like there consepts but i dislike the idea of massive grinds and linear story telling.
Very few games exist that forfill all my fetishes.

I play pretty much anything under the sun, there are a some games that i will avoid if they have specific fetishes in it that i don't like but other than that i don't have much that stops me from playing a game. Other than that as long as its playable, somewhat finished or have enough content in it and is well written then i'm game.

Not in the sense of a moral guide line, but there are some games I'd not consider playing because I know I wouldn't like them anyway. I won't touch a game with a 3 meter pole if it fits one or more of these descriptions:

- Anything that includes shota or loli
- Any dad-daughter game
- Any non-lesbian female protagonist game
- Any non-lesbian NTR game
- Any futa game (I'm not saying these are bad, I just prefer women without penises)
- Any "bimbo" game (Fucking a stupid woman is like fucking rubber doll)

Content I will certainly play includes:

- Any lesbian domination game
- Any mom-daughter game
- Most other lesbian games

As far as the setting goes as a general rule I favor fantasy, cyberpunk, post-apocalyptic and sci-fi settings, though they when it comes to lingerie and high heels the ladies may well have some stuff you wouldn't otherwise expect in a medieval fortress, spaceship or toxic wasteland. It's a porn game after all, not a realistic game.

As don't have any rules as far technical quality or "finished-ness" goes. Like anyone else, I'd prefer games that are finished and without bugs, but this is not a requirement. In general my priorities are these:

Fetishes > Story and setting > Technical aspects

So, I'd prefer a 0.01 buggy game about a daughter taking her mom to the BDSM club to a fully finished technical masterpiece about a love-triangle of a teenage girl and her brother and her dad.

This is pretty much my exact method. I will never play a RPGM game. Whats the point of running around with that horrible engine, UI, and being hard to use cheats to pass grinding. Unless the gameplay is like FF6 with sex, I dont see the point.

Also, vanilla love story and stuff like that does nothing for me... I am ashamed to admit I watched too much porn over the years and got desensitized to all but the most depraved stuff lol.

I avoid games that are focused on bestiality. I prefer content without incest or with avoidable incest. And I avoid games where girls have unnaturally big breasts according to pictures.
I'm not a big fan of games where the main character behaves too dominantly or aggressively and games where girls behave unnaturally sluty.
Some girls who act sluty might be interesting, but the games where every girl from the beginning wants to jump on the MC's dick are boring for me.
I just like when personalities are at least a little believable.
