I am new to DAZ3D and was wondering if anyone can tell me where to copy the Freebie files that DAZ Install Manager won't recognize, that I must manually install.
Some have just content files.
some have people, content, and data.
So I am not sure what folder to put the files in.

Thanks

Do I copy DATA file from zip to C**\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\DATA?
there is 2 ways
1. If zip has file with name IM000(rar)...etc., you need to download DAZ Install Manager - and place IM000 file here > C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads
2. If zip has folders like People\Data\Runtime etc., you need to create folder 'content' then go in daz and point where is this 'content'. Then drop all files to this folder
like this [C:\Users\***\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\Content]

Something I noticed with some of the content available on other sites.

If there's a 'my library' folder, you can usually just merge this with the 'my library' folder.

Sometimes you'll see a 'Content' folder, but they really meant 'my library'. This comes into play if you place content into the 'my library/content' folder, but then get the 'these files are missing' message when trying to open up your newly added thing. In that instance, moving everything 'up one level' may solve this issue. I've seen this with a few packages now.

Oh, and friendly disclaimer. Definitely check the readmes for usage rights. Some authors have some pretty strong restrictions, which you should take a look at when using their product. This could come into play if you are going the Patreon route...

merge vs don't merge....
I have close to 3000 separate runtimes, built for specific projects that I worked on. a game, a movie, etc.
you can merge everything, if you want, but there can be some issues from doing so. you will learn to cringe, when a package asks to overwrite. where saying yes can mean hundreds of assets no longer work properly.

this was posted in another thread

I better do a quick clarification. When I said 'moving everything', I of course meant 'everything in the package you just installed', not 'all of your content'.

R.E. what Polywog posted about merging vs not merging:

Daz 'defaults' to installing Daz content into the Public Daz folders, but there's also the 'User' Daz folders where you usually find the Render Library and such (unless you've designated otherwise). I like to install my free stuff there, but you should probably take some time after installing a package to create 'shortcuts' to these new things in the appropriate places (Categories, etc.). The point here is that, as pointed out, there are two locations to choose from for installing your own content. Do what you think is best - I don't like to taunt the Daz gods myself, so I use the 'User' Daz my library folder for free stuff.

@OhWee

I'll see your clarification and raise.
Where OhWee distinguished between Daz content, and Free content. There is another category in between. Users should be aware that while Daz makes a thing or two here and there, the site is primarily like Amazon with assets coming from vendors around the world. There is Daz content, vendor content, and freebies. Some are made by professionals, some are made by amateurs. Don't get me wrong, amateurs make good porn, and I love new and different assets as well. All of the above were made by humans, and people make mistakes sometimes.
