@desmosome The low poly will not be used for any of the sex scenes. I explain it a bit somewhere else in the thread, but the gist of it is that I want to make a 3D game with 2D scenes. Low poly models are a lot easier to make a game with, and I feel that the low resolution of the 3D content fits well with the low resolution of the 2D content.

The gameplay is not supposed to be sexy. This is not an illusion game or something like DerelictHelmsman's beautiful Breeder's of the Nephelym where the sex is a gameplay mechanic. The gameplay in Aurok is supposed to be fun and enjoyable in it's own right, which is why the low poly style is being used. I think it makes the gameplay fun.

The STORIES in the game, however, will have erotic themes and will hopefully be arousing. These stories will of course happen alongside the gameplay, but it will primarily be conveyed through dialogue and 2D drawn scenes.

The only reason that the 3D characters are naked is because it is a part of how the story begins, and the reason they have jiggle physics is because I find it hilarious. The low poly characters are not meant to be sexy.

Edit: Regarding cashing in on the adult games market, Yes this is a project that is designed with commercial goals, but it was designed every step of the way with adult content being a key feature. I strongly believe that this game would be negatively impacted by the removal of it's adult content, and that its adult content would not be nearly as titillating without the game supporting it. It is also designed as a response to what I feel is an over-saturation of adult "games" that are not actually games, in a market that is growing tired of endless renpy and rpgm shovelware.

Sure thing man. I didnt mean to come off as dismissive or anything like that. Was just trying to give my thoughts. As far as sex scenes go, I think 3D renders for scenes would fit better than pixel art in this game though. I cant see pixel art porn being used in anything other than retro style games.

And likewise, I was only trying to explain my position :D I think it's definitely something that will come across better with the game actually being playable to back up what I'm saying.

I am somewhat concerned that pixel art CGs might be a bit too niche, but there are plenty of games doing quite well with them, and I think the benefits they provide to animations greatly overcome their forced retro-aesthetic.

3D still renders, though, are a disgusting blight on the adult games community. Facial expressions are very important to the eroticism of a scene, and I don't think I've ever seen a 3D render that didn't give me massive uncanny valley vibes from their facial poses. (One might think that Pixel art would be even worse at conveying facial expressions, but I'm a firm believer that having fewer details in a face just means there are fewer things to mess up and you can be even more expressive)

Don't mind me, I'm just enjoying messing around with the game with lighting turned off.

Possibly the least exciting in-development screenshot ever, but oh well

just take your time, as long as progress is happening no mater how fast or slow that's all that counts.
i would like to see this finished, there are too many games that are abandoned.

I see that you want to do the game the way you are doing it, cuz well it's your concept and idea. Though personally after reading through some of your comments i still don't understand why.
Like I personally think Low-Poly style art for games is cool. Low Poly survival awesome, adding plot and companion factors. All awesome.
Adding NSFW elements in a different artstyle with preset animations that do not involve the player character that they create... I just.. Idk I don't get it. Probably cuz i can't imagine getting off to pixel art myself, and feel like sticking low poly would potentially be more immersive for they player.
It seems like something I would really want to play if it was just the low-poly.
You do you though. Good on you sticking to your vision.

@UsagiSabita

There's been a fair bit of conversation surrounding the 3D LowPoly / 2D Pixel Art juxtaposition so far, and I'm pretty sure most of the discussion on my end will just be developing the game and demonstrating that what I'm doing can work :D There are other games that do similar things fairly effectively, and although I would agree that using multiple art styles is not ideal, very few things in game development ARE ideal, and the trade-off I'm making with using 2D art CG's in 3D game's is fairly common.

Truthfully I would be very happy to be able to make a game fully 3D, with a more emotive art style and well-animated H-Scenes, but to do so currently would mean focusing entirely on the development of those art assets, and it would prevent me from accomplishing my primary motivator, which is to create fun gameplay.

Also I like pixel art and it's a great way to learn to animate, so that helped me in my decision making as well :D

It looks interesting at the very least, I'll keep an eye on it for the time being, and hopefully it will manage to win me over after it's gotten some real content.
