to me the surprise is better, i'll take summer time saga as a example, at some point you suspect a girl to be a trap, i was so excited to find out if it was the case because i wanted it be be true but in the end you just choose her gender and that was a bit disapointing to me.

if peoples doesn't want a certain kink maybe remove it with subtles dialogue interaction through the game because for the one that like it (and more close to the audience you should have since this is what you want to make) it's a bit of a bummer to have the surprise removed.

I
I would love a game with bisexual protagonist! This kind of game is on my wish list (right now, there's only one good game like this: Drawing My Life)

But I understand that some people might not like this kind of things.
So:

1. Make this game exactly the way you want, with bisex male protag.
It is impossible to make everyone happy and create a good game. This kind of stuff is not for everybody (like incest, ntr, femdom or bestiality). There are some people, like me, who's gonna love you for this game.

or

2. You could add an optional 'warning option' in settings menu - so people could avoid this kind of content.

I agree that everyone have a liking and some will fight you if you add something they don't like. So, please do the game the way you want and not as other please because you can't please them all. There shouldn't be any warning a simple do it or not is enough.

As for game with bisex protagonist, I found

I'm currently in the very early stages of blocking out a game, at the rate I am going at it is likely to be first playable near the end of year. Although the game's concept/theme is loosely based around a series of books, I am going to inject more adult themes into it.

As I work through the very basics I am often thinking about themes of sexuality within the game, and when it comes to the main character I am wanting to make him bisexual a little later into the games lifespan.

So, the questions of the day are;
  • Would you play a male protagonist if he shows tendencies of bisexuality. Yes, that means that at some stages throughout the game, the main character could also 'do' male characters as well as mostly leaning towards female interests, rarely (if ever) 'takes it'
  • Would you want this sort of thing to be explicitly called out via the GUI or would you prefer it to come naturally?
  • Do you want a choice to block such contain (at the risk of really skewing character experience?)
After playing a lot of VN's I have noticed that the "gay" themes are not really mainstream and often do not survive long, and that is usually the same for a male character that is bi, but lesbianism is most definitely fine (when done good).

This game I am making is not going to be on Patreon, and will only be released here at certain intervals.
If you want to appeal to a wider audience, I would go with making it clear that certain content is optional... And then just include different choice based story paths, that will appeal to to varying likes and dislikes...

If you want to narrow down your audience or just appeal to very specific sexual likes/dislikes, then make it known up front so people are not surprised about it later as no choice was presented to avoid it, in case it's not what they are into...

As far as natural progression in the story is concerned, I always believe relationship building works best when it follows a natural progression... Even pure lust should have a natural progression that makes sense in the story telling... Going with a "he/she's so hot looking, so now I'll jump his/her bones, bumpity-bump, smoke em if ya got em" story approach, when first meeting a character is so unnatural and unrealistic...

First of all, kudos for wanting to tackle a rather underrepresented fetish.

In general, my favourite way of not seeing unwanted content is by presenting the player with logical choices.
I am not in favour of hard blocking of content, be it NTR, gay, trans, whatever.

If the game features male bisex scenes, then the player should make logical choices that leads towards that or not.

****************
For example, the bi-curious(?) MC and his gay best friend go to a party.

1)
BF: Look at that guy on stage! He's hot!
MC:
A) Yes, he's hot => 2
B) You know I like girls => no further romance possible
C) Hmm, dunno => 3

2) (Yes, he's hot)
After some further flirty conversation BF tries to kiss MC
MC:
A) Hey, what the fuck??? => no sex scene, no further romance possible
B) I'm not ready yet => no sex scene, but further romance possible
C) kiss back => sex scene

3) (dunno)
After getting back to the hotel:
BF: haven't you ever fantasized about a guy?
MC:
A) Yes => sex scene
B) No => further conversation

****************

So, first: logical consequences to actions.
Second: a last-moment bail-out option.
Real life works more or less the same, so it'll feel natural if you do it like this.

Well, I'd certainly be interested, but since I'm only attracted to femmes (if er're talking about men), ie males that are atleast somewhat feminine in appearance (twinks, in porn parlance) or y'know, elves ... that type of thing, I would definitely prefer to have it as an optional choice in each instance. Like, MC gets opportunity to bang/being banged by a cute twink: I'm in! But if the option is to rim a big, hairy muscular, manly dude, then I'd definitely like to be able to opt out. So it depends I guess.

Too bad this wasn't made into a poll, the data collected could've been helpful.

While i dont like Bi and gay stuff i just wanted to say make what ever you want. If a creator is not happy or like the setting for the game they making then it can be felt by the player i would say. Also might also affect your work pace and motivation to make it. Some point people that enjoy the game you making are gonna find it and come support it. I would suggest starting out with some smaller games if you not made any yet to get a feel for it and let people get a genral idea what to expect for you. Of course this is just my opinion but seen alot of devs make their first game only to either stop or vanish completely with only making a small demo. Anyways i hope you can find something out and wish best of luck.

i wouldnt mind playing a game with a bi mc as long as the gay content is optional. ravager has different types of content toggleable from the preferences menu.

As long as there is enough gay content, or at least an attractive love interest, I don't mind a bisexual MC.

Honestly, I thonk you should make the story how you want it to be. Since you aren't trying to monitize it, you have much more freedom to do that. While its not my cup of tea, i can see plently of folks enjoying a male bi charecter. I keep picturing Jack Hartness from Doctor Who :) i think it opens some plot line curveballs that could be fun ("wait, my male bully loves me and bulliea me because he can't deal with these feelings? Well, we'll fix that right now")
