Just recently, Unity games stopped working on my laptop. Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm thinking it might be the windows 10 fall creator update. Any game that uses Unity crashes or opens up but black screens. My specs if it helps is an i7-4700, Nvidia GTX 765m, 8GB ram

Here is the beginning of the error message from the Twist.

The Twist [version: Unity 2017.2.0f3 (46dda1414e51)]

UnityPlayer.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)

C:\Users\E1\Desktop\Games\freedoom\TheTwist0.16Final\TheTwist.exe, run by E1.
47% memory in use.
2048 MB physical memory [2048 MB free].
0 MB paging file [0 MB free].
2048 MB user address space [1623 MB free].

Any help is appreciated!

@tresr
1) Check to see if your antivirus software is blocking Unity.
2) Run the game as administrator.
3) Update your video card drivers.
4) Run Window Memory Diagnostic to check for memory issues.

I would try these in that order. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice!

Sadly nothing... I already tried steps 1 and 2 multiple time for every Unity based game, and my drivers are up to date. Memory Diagnostic didn't find any errors. It's looking more and more like the windows 10 update messed up something.

I've seen someone else have a similar problem. They reinstalled their av and it started working again. Perhaps try and delete/reinstate the exception for Unity in your av.

After some quick Google-fu, learned other people were having similar issues with the Fall Creators update. One solution that worked for some people was simply restarting their pc's. It seems the update need a few restarts to fully initialize. It's worth a shot.

Do any of the older versions of the game work, it could be a bug introduced in a Unity update.

The restart thing might be worth a shot when I have more time, my laptop takes a while to just restart for some reason. For the anti virus, idk, at one point i turned it off and it still didn't work (unless I have an old av I forgot to unistall or something). As for the versions of the games, I don't think thats it. I re-downloaded some old unity games that haven't been updated in a while and those black screened, while newer games give me a crash log. Either way unity engine isn't working for me.

UPDATE: I'm like 10 restarts in and nothings changed, at this point it seems like I can only wait for an update to fix something...

Uhm not sure what the fix is but your problem is here: 2048 MB user address space [1623 MB free]. <- The game requires 2048MB and you have only 1623 available.

First, thanks for noticing that, I didn't even see that there.

Second, strange, so it must be a coding problem with either my nvidia drivers or windows 10, cause the problem occured just a few weeks ago. I'll look into restoring a previous version of windows or something later. Thanks!

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but has anybody had any success in dealing with this problem with Unity games? I've followed through on all the suggestions made earlier in the thread, but every game using the Unity engine either refuses to open, or fails to function correctly requiring me to kill the process from Task Manager.

I don't know if has been fixed with some type of update yet because I have been very busy lately. But Overwatch wasn't working for me back then and a friend in discord told me to change my screen resolution and everything should work. I change it to a random resolution in display settings, hit play and it worked, same with some unity games i tested.

So if this is still a problem try changing your computer's screen resolution and playing. If its been fixed or doesn't work, I'm sorry for the mini necro.

Thank you so much, this worked for me.

Sence that game runs at 1080p default and you have under 2GB of video memory running at a lower resolution is the only way you will be able to play it.

Unity game lags too much with 100% gpu usage ( 2gb grapics card AMD).Changing the screen res didnt changed a thing and when I change area in the game(Twist) is does not respond with 100% disk usage. Fk tis
