Guys I've messed around with Skin builder for Genesis 3 and made for the first time a custom skin. How can i export it from my current character to save it or edit with an external program?
You can drag all of the skins into the same folder, with same naming convention via the use of the Utilities \ Save Skin and Material Presets, within Skin Builder 8. You can then open these texture via a different program for editing. If you want to know the skin on a current figure you can hover over the skin within the surfaces tab and the textures file location will show up.

Note: When saving the skins via Skin Builder 8, it will not immediately change the skin location on the current figure. To assign the renamed skins in the new location to the current figure you have to apply through the People \ Genesis 8 Female \ Materials in "My Library".

Thank you very much mate. But i already done this the old hard way :ROFLMAO:. Just went straight to the ***\My DAZ 3D Library\Runtime\Textures\SkinBuilderG3FMR\CreatedMatFiles folder and copied it manually.

I need some advice from 3d artists.

First: I'm an expert... But Rusty coder. I Was an enthusiastic occasional 3d guy. Cad... AutoCAD rhino etc for design. Povray, 3ds etc for rendering. I've learned Daz pretty well, rhino came back to me. Tried 3ds, cinema4d, Maya, zbrush. I physically hate zbrush. I abandoned c4d because I Think for a bit more work w Maya I can do more and because Maya is logical to me while c4d not so much. I've tinkered w blender but memorising 1000 kb shortcuts ugh... I need experienced/skilled artists to suggest a route/ combo. I love Daz, have it down and plan on always having it installed. Right now I'm thinking Maya for when I want large scenes or animations... Combined w blender for modelling? I considered max plus Maya but that seems like duplication. I love rhino but it's really cad software and I'm assuming I'll hit a wall with it I won't w blender. I thought about forcing myself to learn zbrush but I have no desire to sculpt plus hate it

Could you suggest the best toolpath? Im thinking it will take a year to get decent with whichever combination and I don't want to look up a year from now and realised I should have chosen differently

I'm trying to port this Ice Cream Cart to DAZ and convert the materials to iray:

  • FBX import into DAZ only gives me 'empty' object in a bunch of groups, it doesn't seem to load the geometry at all
  • FBX import into Blender (tried 2.79 and 2.8 beta) just pops a message that ACSII FBX-files aren't supported
  • sketchfab offers an autoconvert feature when downloading, that results in a .bin, .gltf and .png textures, Blender 2.8 beta does import the .gltf but with similar results to FBX and DAZ, no geometry visible
I've ported models in the past where the materials where simply set to opacity 0% ... effectively making them invisible. That's not the case here. A binary FBX I ported just minutes before worked without problems.

Any ideas? Broken file?
EDIT: nevermind, the cart was simply positioned a million miles away from the center *doh*

Is there any good way to mirror hair (speaking mainly for Daz)? Yes, I know people say to scale x to -100%. To some extent that creates a mirror, but it is often a very poor mirror with any number of anomalies and oddities that make it really unusable. Inverting the xcoords seem to be fine for mirroring hair or other objects when they are completely standalone. It seems to be something in the process of fitting to another object that deforms various parts.

I've looked some into the raw files to see if I could make my own tool to flip it. So far I don't know enough about how the auto-fitting is accomplished and what it makes use of to accomplish the task. Searches just seem to keep pointing me back to others being amazed at how the -100 accomplishes exactly what they want. So maybe it is just me.

As a possible option you could try mirroring the group which contains the character and the hair. It would also mirror the character, however the issue of hair fitting to the character should be resolved.

It fits to the character just fine regardless. But various parts of the hair misbehave. For instance, everything looks right except the bangs stick straight out parallel to the floor. Or instead of the hairstyle being sleek and clean, suddenly 5% of the hair groups look like the character just stepped out of a wind tunnel.

The problem isn't that it stops fitting. The problem is that most of the hair looks great, but a few bits here and there just do random, unexplainable things.

(There's also the matter that using that technique causes any number of issues with any morphs the hair has as well. For a starting point I'd be willing to just not use any hair morphs if it looked good in its base form. Although, ideally, it would be nice if the hair and the morphs all worked equally well for both sides.)

gen 3 -> gen 8 pose convertor is slow as hell, generating metadata for 15,000+ pose files takes 16 or so hours to finish

the hair and clothes convertors work fine, but still can take a few hours, the pose convertor, you just have to leave your computer alone or it conks out

need a charector convertor, so everyone can free up 40GB of drive space with windows drive compression on the directories, there is probably a subdivision value to just use with smoothing and rename few bones

Untick the meta data box when converting poses, you can make a custom folder if you want for converted poses, the meta data box is just for the smart content tab, I never use it anyway, just use the content library for the poses if you prefer the content tab.

it's best to make a custom folder, if your My Library folder is empty and installing Daz3d, no converted file's will be saved

make's life easy too, so know if you need the corrector, looking at the file path of the pose files, if the path is like Library\People\Genesis 8 Female\Poses\G3_Converted\

Why that? You can use almost everything for g3 on a g8. The cloth have auto fit, hair too and even most of the poses work quite well.
There is actually no real advantage in using g8 aside from it having more polygons (which doesn't make it look better and consumes more memory), the models are almost the same and the only "big" difference is a few more face bones.
There are many assets for g3 which include g8 and vice versa, because they are nearly identical.

Guys is it possible to do water droplet on skin in daz 3d?
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
I never tried that but you could try a greyscale as displacement map. Lighter colors stand out more/will look more bumpy. You will need to play a bit with the values of refraction index/strength, gloss and so on.
