Hey!
I'm working atm on a game which is fairly close to being done and i'll be posting it here for as I'm making it for you guys. kinda like a "give back to the community thing" however I'm curious,

what's people's opinion on music and sound fx? I always have my stuff on full mute cause I personally don't think they add anything, and so far I haven't added any to my game

but if majority would be bummed out by the game having no sounds then i'll go through the effort to add fitting sounds and music (can be a tedious task)

I'm happy with all feedback possible :D thanks!

Very rarely have I actually thought the music and sound has added anything to my experience. In most cases I find it does the exact opposite of what sound should be doing, it takes me out of it. In most cases it's like adding a wilhelm scream to every fall in an otherwise serious movie

I like both and think they can add to the experience, but if you don't personally want to add them then don't. It's your project you decide what you actually want in it at the end of the day.

Personally i like game with music and particularly sound effect during sex scene. Do you ever try a porn videoclip without audio? For me it's not the same thing. Naturally, personal taste.

Every game should have music, sound effects, and options to control the volume of these elements.

This one is a very conflicting topic, you will find alot people play with the volume turned off for obvious reasons and alot of them get into heated debates as to why a dev doesn't need to waste time with sound effects.
Im an audiophile, i enjoy a good game track if its not a "stock" one, a good score can make a game an unforgettable experience. In the end its up to you to decide if you want to want to spend time in music & sound fx.

Original music is good. Stock music gets old very fast. Sound effects can add a bit of flavor to action/sex scenes.

All that aside, the absolute greatest strength of music is the ability to set the tone. Look at pretty much any dramatic or emotional scene in a movie. The music itself plays such a large role in the emotions you are feeling.

If you want to see music done right, look at some of The Anax's VNs, and of course, Acting Lessons.

It's kind of sad the number of people that turn down the music and sound.
I spend so much time with the music and sound in the game.
It does really well to set the tone.

Think it's mainly due to peoples experience with some games in which it has some loop music from start to end.

Hey, thanks all for your inputs!, ye i work within special effects for the movie industry so I know very well what music and sound adds to a scene :) But for the games I feel pretty similar to what most people have mentioned,

"if the music is bad made it ruins the experience rather then enhance it" which is what i'm worried about would happen for me, as i'm not a very sound interested person,

I don't mean only during the actual sexual scenarios but, all around, adding the sounds for opening doors and walking somewhere, and the general music in the background ( which in my case would be a generic stock as creating something is not my expertise at all) would be added since in my opinion it would be strange to have sound for sex but nothing else, either go all the way or skip it.

(I rather spend the time simulating hair movements in animation then tweaking sounds :D )

but also if sound would be something that's really missing it's not the end of the world to go back and add it later on I guess

If the music is good enough, I can appreciate it. Sounds in sex scenes are often pretty horrible though, I've only seen a few games manage to pull those off well. In general I don't think they are worth the time/effort/expense unless you yourself, or someone on your team, are very passionate about the audio side of things and are willing to put in the effort to do them well.

It's pretty rare that I'd actually listen to anything in an adult game. If there's actual gameplay I'd consider it, but if it's a click-menus type game then I don't really expect it to add anything.

That said, the thread kinda proves that there're folks out there that feel the opposite.

yeah, this is my feeling as well. 99% of the time I listen to my own music while playing.
