I did as well. I don't know if it was ever the authors intention, but it seemed like a lot of the elements building up to the Kathy relationship suggests that she is your real daughter. I've thought this since her reactions to the MC confronting her about her writings. The fact that she would be so interested in writing about that subject in the first place combined with her reactions to their growing relationship strongly suggest that these ideas are linked and that the core of her conflicting emotions come from her inner conflict upon pursuing a sexual relationship with her father behind everyone's back, even his.
I've always felt that the reason why Kathy feels that way is that she knows the Daughter(Amanda) likes her own dad. She feels like going out with him would be betraying her best friend since he's not only her friend's dad but the man her friend loves. It wouldn't even surprise me if the daughter knows about the stories and/or they are inspired by fantasies she told Kathy.

So did anyone else get the funny feeling that Kate is your daughter from another relationship? While reading through her dialogue I was drawn to the fact that she kept referring to "out relationship" is complicated, things are not what the seem ect...
I got the exact same vibe as well. I doubt that's how it will play out, but I think a lot of us got that feeling.

I haven't played the online version, that apparently allows you to load saves from the previous chapter, but the offline version doesn't load information from previous chapters. If they did, then why did chapter 3 say I chose the bartender, when I hadn't, I chose the lady by the bar. If each chapter uses the saves from previous chapters this wouldn't happen. But the games don't use saves from previous chapters, at least not on my PC.
As it has already been repeated here countless of times already - both versions can use saves from the previous chapter, you just can not mix saves of the online version with the offline version.
New chapter of the offline version can import the status of the previous chapter, but only from an offline version of the previous chapter (offline saves are in %localappdata%\VNE2 folder - make a backup if you're planning to switch computers or make a clean install of Windows)
If your chapter said that you played the path with Veronica previously, then it's either a bug, or...
...
The thing with the chapters is that the next chapter won't import the last save of the previous chapter, but the status of the game (an autosave, if you like) from when you last played and finished it.
So, in case you generally played and saved the route with Heidi (the bartender), but after creating the last save looked into and finished the chapter on the path with Veronica (the lady by the bar), then the next chapter will import the path with Veronica.
To avoid that, just start the previous chapter, load the last save from the path that you want to continue and finish the chapter on that path. Then start the new chapter.

is there a reason why the newest patreon version is never uploaded?
Because they're web page only until the free version is released, which is a standalone. The devs do this specifically to try to force people to pay to get the latest chapters. (They keep the link to the web version secret in the patron only posts.)

Of course this is kind of stupid, because the saves from the web version don't work in the standalone version, and vice versa... and they could basically achieve a similar and less user-unfriendly result by doing what basically everyone else here does. Release the same version in a patron only post for a few weeks or something before the public release. That way you get the exact same saves etc... and make things a lot easier on your users instead of screwing them over trying to wring a little more money out of people.

Hi:

Has anyone got the cheat codes for chapter 3. I played it and got no code for chapter 3 whereas I played chapter 4 and got 3 codes.

Thank you.

Currently my preferred theory. Aside from making a good bit of sense, it could lead to a threesome.

Mmm.

I said it back in chapter 1, really enjoying Palmer's work on this. There is -one- thing that bugs me and it's each chapters being split up. Will there be a full single executable version once it ends, to make playing thru the whole thing simpler?
Yes, we will release a single full game once the chapters are complete.

That's what it looks like. It's like the author intentionally wants to piss in the face of their users. "Let's use a crap engine to begin with, claim it's the best, then refuse to allow off-line play and force you to play in a browser like it's some garbage flash game from 20 years ago, as well as disable all the simple controls that RenPy people enjoy, like easy access to saves, hiding the overlay crap, rollback, etc..."

I still like the game despite this shitting on of the users, but the author seems like a bit of a douche. (And I'm a paying patron, for the record.)

I've honestly been very tempted to port the first chapter to RenPy just to see how much better it would be to have native support for Windows, Linux, and Mac right out of the box, and how much better it would be to play a game where you actually have more control over it like most VNs.

A few comments to your post:
1) I don't want to piss on anybody unless it's a Sunday; then I'm a fucking fire hose.
2) Our "crap engine" is definitely better than Ren'Py in every regard. Anyone that's ever worked with it and our manual can attest to this.
3) All of our free chapters can be downloaded and played offline.
4) "Author seems like a douche" Yes, that's probably true. I do tend to reply in an asshole manner to asshole comments.

Heh. I'm sure it's tough to resist, but it's unlikely you get much benefit from it (other than that nice - but temporary - warm glow).

As I asked the other apparent dev... did you create this engine yourself then? It's not another engine like GameMaker etc?

As for the free chapters, that's not the point. As I wrote in later comments, it's an obvious attempt to force players to pay you more money to access the chapters you try to keep locked as web only. The problem is that by being greedy like this you create an incompatibility between the two different versions of the games, and hence see the now numerous comments by players here confused by the different versions with incompatible saves etc.

Again, not to mention things like no rollback, etc. Pretty standard fare for Ren'Py games.

If you had a quality product, I'd think you'd consider doing what most of the other devs here seem to do. You put the game behind a "patron only" post, but have the same single game released there that is released free a few days or weeks later. Same saves, same game, same content within the game... rather than multiple different builds for different chapters, between multiple different platforms, all of which leave many players confused and frustrated... all apparently so you can brag about how great your development tools are, and so you can apparently try to get a few more bucks out of the players by... as I previously said, pissing on them for your own seemingly selfish and somewhat misguided reasons.

You're perfectly free to be an asshole. :) What I care about is the reasoning that comes along with it.

EDIT: I just noticed your previous reply (didn't see that you double posted) noting that you'll release a single build once you've done all the chapters.

A good step in the right direction. :) Credit where credit is due.

That's totally fine by me :)

Yes, the engine is created by us, using GMS as the platform. How the fuck are we greedy when we release everything we do for free? I'm honestly stunned at that statement. There is a rollback feature, there are cheat codes to change what you previously did without replaying that chapter. The incompatible saves isn't really our fault. We specifically state you can't (at least right now) mix online/offline saves. As for the cracked saves I don't really take responsibility for those.

You are actually the only one I've encountered that appears to be confused. You are free to enter our Discord and ask for clarification to your questions in #game-help. There is always someone that will help you, regardless if you played the free, cracked, or patreon-release.
