Thank you all for the help! I was looking for the timer setting (default 2 hours) and found that with the assistance given here. :)

The rest seemed self explanatory. Iray tries to add in things not in the render for shadows and reflections that might affect the target image from off screen. All this has to be loaded and processed, so it adversely effects performance.

Are you referring to that individual materials settings? Or the focus on the render settings itself? (I know photography, so the latter is self explanatory)
I was referring to the quality of the texture map on the character itself. If you create detail on the surfaces, the light will reflect in a different way, taking away the detail on the surface. The photos don't have to travel any further, they just have to be modified correctly.

I will also add that quality has a price : memory and time. To complement what @Xavster is saying is that complex surfaces requires more calculation, i.e. if you use shaders that make use of displacement map (like the majority of the true PBR material shaders) or use complex refraction/reflexion or transluency maps, they will requires more power/time to be rendered because they interact more thouroughfully with the lights. It is even more true for displacement map because they modify the geometry/complexity of the mesh... What also affect the rendering time is the path lenght a photon has to travel trough your scene (Render > Optimization > Path Lenght: -1 means infinite).

What's a decent setting for Path Length then?

Depending if there are reflective surface or not (like water or mirrors), but if time is really a concern a value between 3 and 7 will cover most use cases. On deviant art someone makes some testing : and on daz forum there was a thread about time optimization : that give advice about path value too.

Personnaly, since I am bit too much perfectionnist, I let the value on -1 to be sure that nothing is lost... Don't forget that optimization is always a question of ratio between quality and time/cost...

Hi guys, help please deal with the problem, some locations when I load are absolutely black, not in the sense of a black screen, but the lights are turned off, all objects, characters, black can only see the outlines for example against the window, someone may have encountered this problem ?

I encountered something like that when I turned off camera headlamp. But I really can't tell without you posting at least a picture.

Okay for real this time. This is my last character for the year (Albeit it's just a few more weeks until the end of the year...) But anyway. Yes. This is it for now. Introducing Seline. Went for big juicy nipples this time as well as larger eyes. I also don't think I've had any other character dye their hair. I think I've only created characters with black hair and brown hair. I don't like using outoftouch's hairstyles. They're very good looking, but highly detailed and tend to increase lag, so I have to make it invisible in more detailed scenes. Didn't need to, to create this though.

Though beautiful, I'm not completely sold on the eye color, but no rush for now. Time to focus on bigger things. Some projects I need to get done before Christmas.
