It's very funny to me that the apparent main mechanic of the game (the fishing) is actually a trap since it takes forever and you have to fiddle with the net that only lets you get payouts for like, 10% of your catch most of the time. For cash you just want to spam the Angler event. Just in the rocky ocean, if you buy the 500m head start, you can get almost 10k in profit just by descending 100m which is approximately a million times more efficient at gaining money than the presumably intended way.

Does the head start actually work for anyone?
I have the 500m line and got the 500m head start so I could just immediately give the gift to the next big fish (the kappa), but still started from the surface and wound up getting intercepted before making it deep enough to reach her again, so both the head start and the gift were wasted.

I got one to work! I think my problem was that my line (maximum depth) needs to be a higher value than the distance for my head start?
Once I got my line length to 1000, I tried to use the head start again, and it actually zoomed me down to 500 depth right at the start!

i already have the infinite line so my max depth is 9999m, maybe i should change to a smaller line?

I haven't used windows on my own systems in 5 years.
Not like windows can be good for anything other than the 68.61% desktop market. But phones, tablets, IoT devices and servers are all mostly Linux (or clones.
Mac even coped BSD (another free version of Unix, that shares alot with linux kernel)
Even 46.91% software developer use windows to develop on.
