Yup, basically the button on the PlayStation. In Japan they are acually inverted: While we use X to select and O to go back (Triangle even in the older PS1 and PS2 games", they used O to select and X to go back).Technically speaking, the ◯ is a sign used in japanese language to indicate something is right, it's like saying "okay", "go on" or whatever in that sense. The opposite the ◯ is the sign X, which means "wrong", "don't", "not good", etc.
Considering that, in the image, the "◯1" can be read/translated as "right one", meaning the girl has "right one" years of age.
"Right" one could imply that the girl is 1 over being right...?
